Best Beach in St. Thomas?

We're visiting St. Thomas on a cruise ship for the second time. We went on a tour with Roy last year and to Coki Beach snorkeling. Is there a better beach? Is it Megans Bay?

Megans Bay is gorgeous however I don't think it's best for snorkeling. What I did was take the 40 minute ferry to St. Johns and went to Trunk Bay. Trunk Bay has good snorkeling.

Hi Collen,

Sapphire Beach which is between Red Hook and Coki Point is an excellent beach for snorkeling and swimming. This long curved stretch of white sand is lined with countless sea grape and a few palm trees. The views of Pillsbury Sound and St. John in the distance are fabulous. The close in snorkeling is much better than at Coke Point. This beach is at the private Sapphire Beach Resort, but you can still use it. You are not supposed to use their beach chairs or pool, however.

Regards,
Ray

You might want to try the excursion to St. John but I would head for one of the less touristy beaches than Trunk. Hawksnest is the first you will come to leaving Cruz Bay and it is lovely - but there are so many others - Honeymoon is another nice beach. If you don't want to haul over to St. John, Sapphire is a good choice as I think it is one of the prettiest beaches on St. Thomas (without the cruiseship crowds) but I happen to like Secret Harbour better - really pretty, quiet and since it is a cove, always calm with clear water for very good snorkling! They have a great little restaurant there for lunch as well, Blue Moon Cafe, right on the beach!

Beach very much depends on day and conditions which vary considerably. A world class beach can be ruined by the wrong day, tide or conditions. Ask the locals about the best beach of the day. Have some idea of what you want to do at the beach...swim, snorkle, eat, sun, etc. Enjoy!
