So which is the best island in the caribbean as far as beaches and sun worshipping is concerned??

Have to agree with Mary: Anguilla's beaches can't be beat. We've been to many, many islands and Anguilla's are spectacular. All are open to the public and you have large (Meads Bay) to tiny, but secluded. A close second would be Anegada, northern most of the BVI's. Not necessarily because of the amenities, but the lack thereof. Very few tourists, and loads of privacy on some of the prettiest beaches we have seen.

3rd the motion for Anguilla; the BVI's are gorgeous too, with some in St. John; Cozumel and Caymans also.<BR><BR>Also know that some islands in the Carib. have a 'good' side and a bad side; i.e., Barbados' east side of the island is rough, the western side is much nicer.

Orient Bay - St. Martin<BR>4. Seven Mile Beach - Grand Cayman<BR>5. I vote for Negril, Jamaica.

The biggest problem with readers polls: the beaches which are visited by the largest number of people are more likely to get votes.<BR><BR>If readers have never been to the better, secluded beaches on some of the less accessible islands, those beaches don't get any votes.<BR><BR>That's the ONLY reason Jamaica gets any votes. It's visited by lots of beginning travellers and people on low budgets.

I vote for Negril also but it is not everyone's style.<BR><BR>I love it because it is, of course, clear blue-green water, white sand and palm trees but what makes it special is that it is lined with little bars and restaurants and boutique hotels and craft stalls...mostly open to the public and none taller than a palm tree so when you look back at the curve of the bay you only see the trees, not the buildings. <BR><BR>But the &quot;stuff&quot; is what makes it interesting to me to walk along, stopping here and there for a drink or snack or to chat with someone. I even enjoy the guys trying to sell me stuff, they are amusing if I have the right attitude, easily dismissed if I am not in the mood.<BR><BR>A person looking for a deserted cove will not like Negril, nor will someone who thinks a wide city beach like at Waikiki or Miami Beach is tops.<BR><BR>To each his/her own :)

Oh...I have been to 4 Carib islands and while we do travel on a budget I still give Negril props for it's unique style, sound, vibe....but as I said, it's not for everyone.
