Liza, what are the beaches on the East Coast of Negril that you refer to, and what about accomodations? I'm looking for something different from Negril this year - considering Treasure Beach, Little Bay. Would love your suggestions.

Long Bay - 1 mile of palm-lined wide white sand, the beach has waves sometimes surfable (quite calm when we were there). Public and incredibly empty - a couple of cottages ad a beach bar and that's aobut it...only 2 other people on it when we were there :)

Frenchman's - a small cove with a little stream running into it, calm and clear. $10 or less if you are staying at a hotel that gives passes to it. I would NOT recommend the hotel that is there though...pretty run down.

Winnifred - a public beach with another lovely stream flowing into the sea.

San San Beach - again, a smaller cove-like beach with white sand and clear, calm water. Expensive ($10 or $20?) but again some hotels and all San San villas offer passes.

Blue Lagoon is not a beach but it's a beautiful place to swim and it's right near the sea. About $8 unless you are staying at on of the BL villas.

I haven't been but a recent visitor recommends that beach at Manchioneal (by Reich Falls) - that one gets manatees fairly often also.

Boston Beach - this one is public, and known for its jerk restaurants, but we found the swimming and beach lovely as well. It's also supposed to have big waves but didn't when we were there.

Lots of places to stay in the area too....these beaches are all to the east of Port Antonio.

I just realized you asked about beaches on the east coast of NEGRIL - the ones I named are on the east coast of JAMAICA, in Portland.

Liza, silly me, I meant to say east coast of Jamaica - your answer was exactly what I wanted so you knew what I meant. Also considering Coral Cove in Little Bay. Sure wish airfare from BWI would drop.

I also say Half Moon or Tryall where you can get your own villa with white glove service (Tryall-on the water with a staff, and stunning views)...Grand Lido San Souci used to be very nice, but I think she has been sold.

I would also suggest the Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios. The beach is incredibly beautiful, the service the best in the Caribbean and the food was outstanding. It is very traditional and understated. Don't go expecting marble bathrooms and tons of activities. Expect relaxation and exceptional service.

Lisager15...

I would love to hear more from you regarding your stay at Jamaica Inn....especially about meals.

I have booked 2 weeks there in April and have read everything I possibly could, but would love to hear more :-) !

Many thanks !
