If you want caribbean vacation, bermuda in December is not the way to go, as it will probably only be in th 60s, maybe 70s if you get lucky.
As to hotels, I was there during the hurricane, and damage was BAD, so check into repairs. Fairmont Hamilton is downtown, and if you want to go to the beach, have to take the hotel's boat over to the Fairmont Southhampton Princess to use beach, etc. Both were damaged. We were in Southhampton Princess, and had to move to Hamilton Princess. I thought the Hamilton Princess was a dump. If you are in the Bay Wing or Pool Wing, think Motel 6, but dirtier. Southhampton Princess is nice, but was badly damaged so see if it is open and what facilities are available. Again, if you are looking for a beach vacation in December, don't go to Bermuda--remember, it is only off the coast of North Carolina and does not have a tropical climate.

Bermuda is a little chilly now. I was there in October and it was in the 80's then. However I loved it and it was beautiful. We stayed at the POMPANO Beach club in southhampton. It was a small hotel on the beach (a small beach) and it was very nice. I would stay there again. It is in the 70's now. when are you planning to go?

If you are dead set on Bermuda, try the NEWSTEAD- it is on the BAY ( not the ocean--short motorbike way to ocean) and is GREAT! very very British- tennis courts, pool , terrific food...No hurricane damage...

If you are looking for warm weather though=head to the Caribbean--however,you need to book air now-and airfare is rather high at this late booking...

Try Barbados...

Simbas- Who bought the Newstead? Are they keeping it a hotel or turning it into condos?

Andy, I had heard the Newstead was closing when we were there in July. I think the same group who bought the Belmont, not sure, looks like it might be condos.

I travelled to wonderful Bermuda for the first time in early August. Nice and hot, and wonderful beaches and atmosphere. Though, December is cool. If you go at any time, try Surf Side, with great water views, reasonable prices, and accomodating staff.

I was just in Bermuda the 3rd week of October and it was beyond beautiful and perfect. Went w/ my mom. And had been previously in March w/ hubs and it was a bit cold. Would hightly recommend the Princess. Bermuda will be too cold for the water in December but you will be treated like a queen. Not sure what you are looking for.

I am going to Bermuda in February. Have been there many times before and always stayed at Southampton Princess. Because of Fabian damage, it still has not reopened. We have reservations at Hamilton Princess and was dismayed to read almesq say it is a dump. You were there in October and highly recommend Hamilton Princess. Is there any particular section of hotel that is better? It always looked nice to me, but I never stayed there before.

I was in BDA in Dec. I suggest for a Feb trip you look at Rosemont (across the street from the Fairmont Hamilton Princess), Fourways (mid-island but within walking distance of the ferry) and the Royal Palms (just up Rosemont Ave from the Fairmont Hamilton Princess).

I would not call a 5 star hotel a dump! Every hotel has a new and old wing. Maybe he is just very picky? I wouldn't trade my two stays there for anything and plan to go back end of this year. Their ferry to the SHP will not be up until the sister hotel is up and running -- which I think is April or May. I took the bus to Horseshoe bay ...it's not private, but still lovely. In October it was busy w/ cruise ship people. I doubt it will be warm enough in Feb to go to thte beach.

I stayed in the Hamilton Princess over New Years. I certainly would not call it a ump, however we were not in the bay or pool wing. hey call those the "budget" wings and they did look different from the outside, however I did not see any of the rooms. If our room was any comparison. it was very nice. Service was wonderful. Oh- and it was about 71 degres every day. Have a great time and I would recommend the Hamilton Princess.

Further to my previous comments, I have heard that the rooms in the "main building" are nicer and obviously newer. If you get stuck in one of the wings, you truly will not be happy. They are glorified motel rooms. I know it is difficult to get a sense from someone you don't know, but if you read my many comments on these boards, you will I believe see that I am pretty reasonable. I like nice places, but don't call things dumps just because they are not perfect. The first wing we were in (Bay Wing) was horrible. Dingy, dirty, smelly halls and rooms, torn carpet, etc. The Pool Wing was a little better, and is right off the main building, but still no better than a motel room. Make sure you are in the main building and you will be fine.
