Bermuda Lovers: Is there anywhere in the Caribbean that compares favorably to Bermuda?
We love Bermuda and have been numerous times over the years. We've stayed at lovely properties like Newstead, Horizons, Pompano and the Reefs. We enjoy the ease with which one can get around - be it by ferry, bus or moped. We love the beauty and serenity, the beaches, the wonderful places to explore, the friendliness of the Bermudians, the cleanliness, the lack of crime, the shopping. You name it and we love it. However, we are able to go to Bermuda only during our son's spring break which, from our experience, translates into iffy weather if it is in March - as it will be in 2005. Is there an island farther south where the weather will be warmer, where we can actually swim and do water activities in March and where we won't regret not being in Bermuda? Many thanks.

I too love Bermuda. It's a special place. There is nothing in the Caribbean that can exactly compare to it but you may want to consider the following:
Harbour Island
Nevis
Barbados
These islands had elements of what I like about Bermuda -- mainly the sense of civility and history. But if you are looking for a copy of Bermuda, you will be disappointed.

There are Caribbean islands with better food (overall) than Bermuda, better accommodations than Bermuda's best, better beaches, better weather. There are islands which are as safe. There are islands (a few) with decent shopping.
But no one island will match Bermuda provide a better combination of these than Bermuda.

Since you have been to Bermuda can you give me some advice on hotels. I really want something very nice, more modern probably. I am not a big fan of rooms with tons of ornate antiques. Something close or on the beach preferably.
You should look at Nevis - Four Seasons - it is outstanding and so many different places you can go to eat but the island is very small.

March in Bermuda is definitely iffy as far as weather goes.
Cayman (my home island) has a lot of similarities to Bermuda, we are both British Overseas Territories, both wealthy islands due to the presence of strong offshore finance industries... which translates into low crime.
Bermuda is stunning it the picture postcard beauty of the place, but then you have to like mopeds (as you are not allowed to rent cars).
I like both islands, but in the winter, Cayman definitely has the edge !
