Bermuda in late April - need advice quick!!

Hello,

I am looking into going to Bermuda April 24- May 1 but must book within the next 2 days. Can someone please help with the following questions so I can make a quick decision?

1. What is the weather like? Will it be hot enough to go to the beaches and do some snorkeling?
2. Has anyone been to the Fairmont Southhampton? That's where we would be staying. Any advice would be appreciated.
3. What activities are there other than snorkeling and shopping.

Thanks!

We have not been to Bermuda in late April, so I can't comment specifically on the weather, but I doubt that it would be hot. We have stayed a number of times at the Fairmont Southampton. We really like it there, but it is a very large hotel. The pros to that are that there are a number of restaurants right on the property, there is a golf course, it has a fabulous spa, there are some nice shops right in the hotel, and there is a kids' club. The main con is that it is not right on the beach, but there is a shuttle that will take you down to the beach where there are full facilities. We don't find it that inconvenient.

I would ask for a harbor view room on an upper floor - the view is beautiful. The ocean front rooms look out to the ocean, but can also be right over the front entrance - it can be noisy there.

There is quite a lot to do in Bermuda. It is truly a beautiful island, and just exploring it is a great activity. You can not rent a car there, but you can rent a moped. Be prepared, you drive on the left.

I went last year during the last week of April. "Hot" and "warm enough to snorkel" are definitely a relative terms. I'm from New Enland, so 75 degrees Fahrenheit was plenty warm for me, I wore shorts the whole time. The high humidity definitely makes it feel warmer. People from a more southern climate might consider that too cold. The water was about 68 degrees, warm enough for me to snorkel, but we did notice the temperature did cause our masks to fog a bit. It was 65-70 at night, perfect temperature to keep the air conditioner off and open the windows. We could wake up to the sound of the ocean, a definite plus to the cooler weather.

It really doesn't get to be "hot" summer temps in Bermuda until mid to late May...75-85 during the day and the water warms up to 75+.

Thanks, loafskier. I guess I was hoping for the weather to hit close to 80. 65 is a bit cold for me. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to the cold. prices go up drastically in late may and june so I was hoping it would be warm enough in late April. thanks for the quick response.

You can rent a wetsuit for snorkeling from Blue Water Divers or the dive shop at the Fairmont Southhampton. The beach is comfortable by late April, but water is still too cold for swimming (I'm from NC and we want bathtub warm).
The Fairmont Southhampton has undergone signicant renovations since the damage doen by the hurricane last fall. It has an amazing spa, several restaurants, a gorgeous beach and excellent tennis courts and golf course.
Bermuda has great hiking (try the Railroad Trail), excellent historical sites, sports activities of all kinds, and a first class underwater exploration museum. Have a wonderful trip.

If you're looking for caribbean weather in April, Bermuda is not the place to go as it is off the coast of North Carolina. Most people don't begin swimming and snorkeling until late May- the Queen's birthday. The water temp usually doesn't hit 80 until late June/ early July. However, Bermuda is beautiful in April - just not beach weather. As far as places to stay, you may want to call the Fairmont Southampton before booking. They had a significant amount of damage to the rooms from the hurricane last year, so not sure if everything's repaired yet.

Thanks all for your responses. I had a super great deal for $109 a night at the Fairmont Southhampton that I really didn't want to pass up but looks like it'll be a bit cold in April. I think I'll look into a cruise to Bermuda in June.
