Bermuda "Dress Code"
I was told by several restaurants and the dept of tourism that even though the dress code in Bermuda has "relaxed" it's not a jean place. Anyone's opinion ? Trying to pack !!

It's not a jeans place - but casual pants are fine - like cotton and capri's are ok if you wear a nice top with them. If wearing t-shirts, just wear a nice one instead of something with writing all over it. The more upscale restaurants like to see men wearing shirts with collars. Before the island became 'relaxed', most restaurants required jackets and ties for men. When going out for dinner, I wouldn't wear running shoes or sandals meant for the beach.

It is called "smart casual" at many places. They discourage any kind of immodest outfits (halter tops, men without shirts, that sort of thing). In the last few years all but a very few places have relaxed their dress codes to accomodate casual slacks, polos, etc. I think sp nailed the description pretty well.

Thanks for your help !

sp and cmcfong are correct.

Bermuda is a conservative place and public nudity would not be acceptable. Male friends of mine have been told to put on a tee shirt. That said, Cambridge Beaches resort has been allowing some limited topless bathing.
