Bermuda cash
 

We will be travelling to Bermuda from the UK in July and need around $3000 (£2000) cash to pay for our accommodation. I don't lke the idea of carrying that amount of cash with us. Can anyone suggest a reasonably secure means of obtaining cash once there? - I understand travellers cheques aren't used any more.

Do you have an ATM card? If so, use it at any of the local bank ATM's (there are dozen's of ATM's around the island) to withdraw the cash you need (check with YOUR HOME bank to find out if you have any daily limits on the amount of cash you can withdraw from your account). FYI - ATM's will dispense cash in Bermuda Currency.

Or, if you have a credit card use that to pay for your accommodations.

If you don't have either of these you can use a pre-paid debit card.

I did something similar couple years back, exchanged the currency into USD at the departure airport and carried the cash with us. Since you will probably pay on arrival at the accommodation, you are not carrying it around for long. Otherwise withdraw the money on arrival, which you will have to do in stages as your bank will probably not allow a withdrawal of that amount in one go.

There's an HSBC, if you want to bring a bank draft and cash it there.

I don't think ATM works so well in this situation because of the large amount they need. I know my home bank daily limit is only $300.

I think the bank draft is the right idea. Or if who you are renting from would accept a money order of some sort as "cash"?
