Bermuda-bound 10/2003
My heart goes out to the Bermudians after Fabian! We are in the middle of booking our travel there for the World Rugby Classic Oct.11-18. I don't think the dates will be changed. Are we wasting our money considering the state of clean-up/repair they are in?

While there is no way to ascertain the extent of the damage, here are a couple of websites (Bermuda specific) that will at least keep you up to date. They are two newspapers and another general Bermuda specific info site. I would also suggest trying to contact your hotel direct to see what their opinion is. Good luck and lets pray for all the Bermudians.

We are booked at the Pompano Beach from 10/11 - 10/18. I called them and they are up and running. They have had some damage but mainly weathered the storrm. I heard the Southampton Fairmont will be closed for 2 weeks but the Sonesta and Pink Beach are closed until further notice. We are still going and hoping things will be better by then. Were is the Rugby tournament and at what hotel are you staying? |

I'm staying at the Hamilton Princess. Do you know what the scoop is on transportation from the airport to Hamilton is since the Causeway is damaged? |
Planes are flying into BDA again, so the causeway is open. Taxis, etc. should be able to pick up etc. and get you into Hamilton. Alot of hotels are open. Bermuda is recovering.

I read the Southampton Princess will be closed till the first of November.

The Fairmont Princess will be closed for a few weeks. The Hamilton Princess will remain open w/ limited guest services.

I've just read (Reuters ?) that South Hampton Fairmont will be closed for repairs for at least 6 months ! and that 25% of rooms at the Hamilton Fairmont are damaged ! |
My daughter received a telephone call this morning from a friend who works at the Hamilton Princess. They are open for business. Harley's is in operation however Heritage Court is not. The fresh water pool is operating but the salt water one is not. The Gazebo wing is closed to guest but the Main Building is taking guests. According to her friend they are quite busy as they are one of the few large hotels in operation at this time.

I spoke with the Pompano Beach where I will be staying. They said that the causeway from the airport is one lane and they take turns going across. The causeway is closed after 7PM. My flight on the 11th is at 12 noon from Newark airport so I should get there in plenty of time. They said the stores in Hamilton are open and by October a good portion will be cleaned up. Missing are trees, schrubs and flowers. I am lucky the Pompano remains in good shape. There watersports center however was totally blowm away. Also the Ferries are running on schedule and taxi's. Bermuda Shorts is a good web site. I like that one the best and also bermuuda.com. |

My husband and I just returned 09/29 from bermuda we had a wonderful time. There is damage to the island but life in bermuda goes on. The beaches were starting to return to use but some have gotten damaged. Horseshoe is in great shape, as is whale bay. The others where getting cleaned up before we left. There are still plenty of resturants open, the buses and cabs are running fine. It is true that some of the hotels were damaged badly but most are waiting for insurance claims and supplies, as with the repairs for most of the houses, mainly roof damage. Some boats were less than gently tossed on land and there again insurance is the hold up. Mopeds can be rented, and this island is still a beautiful place to be.
I think oct. is a bit cool for me but it depends on how hot you like it, sept. 28 the water was still 80 and the nights were starting to cool to the upper 70's at night. The sun was out for most of the days....Enjoy Any questions? |
