Bequia : What's the current mosquito situation ?

I will be in Bequia from April 19th till the 30th.
Staying 5 days at Frangipani Hotel & 5 days at SweetRetreat.
What can I expect with regards to mosquitos and night time sleeping ?
Minor or Intense problem ?

Mosquitos on Bequia (and any other Caribbean island) are more a factor of recent weather conditions and "local habitat" rather than the island itself. Mosquitoes are more prevalent after periods of prolonged or heavy rains. Thus, if the weather has been "dry' in the week or so prior to your visit you won't encounter near as many mosquitos as you would if it was relative rainy. Also, you'll encounter more mosquitos in areas of dense vegetation or around salt ponds and standing water. Mosquitos are more active at dusk especially during periods of light or no breezes.

So, no one can predict NOW with any certainty whether or not you'll encounter a problem with mosquitos between April 19 and the both. You won't really know that until you are "on-island" and even then some areas can be mosquito free while others might be a little "buggy". Al that being said, Bequia normally isn't a "buggy" island.

The Frangipani has mosquito nets on their beds that occasionally have holes so bring some duct tape. Mosquitos on any island including Bequia are really only out early morning and evening. April is in the heart of the dry season so you are there at a good time, but always follow the basic rules for avoiding mossies and you'll be fine:
-dont wear perfume
-dont eat bananas
-keep your nets tucked in
-spray your legs with citronella in evenings - especially when dining out. mosses love to hang under tables.

Bequia has had a little bit of a wet dry season so its good to be smart and prepare. Even if you don't need it.
