Bequia/St . Vincent

Ctkathy, thanks. What was Bequia like as an island---many restaurants etc and what was St. Vincent like?

Bequia is a pretty little island - very laid back and can offer a fairly inexpensive vacation. There's several small resorts around the island but many people stay in the main village which lines a harbor and is a favorite stopover for yachtsmen. It has neat places to stay and lots of restaurants.

St. Vincent is a huge island, very tropical and offers lots of eco-stuff to do. Rainforest walks, treks to the volcano, snorkeling, diving. It is not overrun in tourism which appeals to lots of people. I've done reviews on them both at www.scubamom.com/grenadines/

Scubamom, thanks. I am fully booked for 2 weeks to STlucia, but my family wants to spend about 4 nights in Bequia at the Old Fort. May give in a do it just to break up the two weeks----Can't decide if we should spend one of the nights at the Grand View in StVinc.

croix,

Bequia was a great island. We arrived via St. Vincent and ferried over, but I never considered staying there. If you only have 4 nights after St. Lucia, I wouldn't spend one of them on St. Vincent.

I thought the Old Fort was really different. You can email me at [email protected] for further information. Again, the town in Bequia is very nice place to dine and there are a few shops, but if you want to go to sleep by 10 or so, the bands playing may make this impossible. Lots of mosquitos in our hotel room, too. However, staying in town makes it easy to get taxis and you are just a short walk from the pier for day trips. It is a trade-off.

Another point on Bequia--don't miss the day sail on Friendship Rose! We went with them to the Tobago Cays one day and then Mustique later in the week. Breakfast is served on deck, later cheese and crackers plus a gourmet lunch with wine. Drinks are served the entire time and the crew is just phenomenal. Everyone had a wonderful time.
