Traveling to the Rockhouse Hotel in May - we're a group of women, 18 to 40. Suggestions for places to visit in Negril? What about restaurants that are within walking distance? Can we walk to the beach? Details about the Rockhouse?

You're within walking distance of quite a few restaurants, since you'll be in the West End. Rockhouse has excellent food and a spectacular site at the cliffs. Right next door, is Pickled Parrot which is great for drinks and views. You're also close to RIck's cafe which has great people watching, but so-so food, and walking closer to town, you're near Xtabi, LTU ( great food, awesome views) and Chicken Lavish ( cheap cheap fried chicken which is absolutely out of this world). You could also probably walk to Three Dives, where you could get an excellent lobster dinner with all the trimmings for about $20/person. As you can see, there'll be no scarcity of places to go from Rockhouse! We just had dinner there last Tuesday night, and I think it was one of the most magical evenings we've ever had. The scenery is gorgeous and very dramatic. Have a wonderful time! By the way, the cottages looked like something out of Robin Leach's Rich and Famous series. WOW!

The Pickled Parrot has been closed for a year or so now...not sure when it will reopen, the ownership is being contested or something like that...did you see it open on this last trip Weadles?<BR><BR>My favorite VERY casual place on the west end is 3 Dives, just one property up from Xtabi on the water side. They have a cave you can climb into and water access and very simmple but delicious and inexpensive food in a very simple natural setting. The owners are great people to hang out with. Lobster last year was only $15 and it was enough for two...we usually get one lobster dinner nad one jerk chicken dinner and split them - cost is under $10 per person.<BR><BR>A great breakfast choice is Just Natural, on the land side of the cliff road near Samsara (not far from 3 Dives). Tables are scattered around in a garden in such a way that you can hardly see the other diners...great service and food. Breakfast is a steal...dinner is more $ but delicious.<BR><BR>Rockhouse has a great restaurant too.<BR><BR>You can't walk to the beach (unless you like walking 3 miles or so, some do), but you have wonderful wter access at Rockhouse, just no sand <BR><BR>The beach has the most nightlife - live music bars mainly.

You'll love the food at Rockhouse...but there are many other great places within easy walking distance...try Just Natural for breakfast at least once....best Jamaican breakfast!! 3-Dives for lobster or jerk chicken...very close...not fancy...but great sunsets and great food.<BR><BR>You can walk to the LTU pub in about 20 minutes or so...and it's well worth it...one of the best places for dinner...everything is fabulous!<BR><BR>Stop at Hallzer's International Bar &amp; Restaurant...great ambiance...great hosts...and a BIG BREAKFAST special.<BR><BR>Also...next to the NOW CLOSED pickled parrot is Pirates Cave...you'll see it from the rockhouse shore...the food there is very good too...a nice place to watch the sunset too.<BR><BR>you will love rockhouse...especially if you have a villa...it's wonderful!

Thank you all!! Altered plan, so now it is just three of us - me &amp; my 18- and 20-year-old daughters. We have a villa, and can't wait to try the places that you've suggested - especially 3 Dives - sounds SO cool. One more question - does anyone know about available horse-riding trips in the area? Again THANK YOU!

There are beach trips at, I think Half Moon Bay (under a half hour I'd say, back towards MoBay) or in the hills near Negril.

Horseback riding at Tony Clarke's Paradise Park--hundreds of acres of parkland and also surfriding, plus Univ.of Fla.archaeological digs for early Taino culture on island. Just past Savannah La Mar headed towards Bluefields/about 30 min.from Negril and about US$30/person/hour. Do a google search on Paradise Park, Jamaica for pix,info,articles.

Will be in Porty scouting around this late April/early May and will check out same.<BR>There are stables near the Blue Lagoon --horses have been brought to guests of ours there,but it's one of those on/off/on again Jamaican ting, and the horses were pretty maaga...

My best meal ever in Jamaica was at the Rockhouse (actually at a small restuarant in Spanish Town - but too off the beaten path). Great atmosphere.
