Bel Air Plantation
I just made a reservation to stay at the Bel Air Plantation in February. It appears they just opened in February, 2003, and I am a little concerned that being new they still have rooms available in high season.
We picked the place because it looks secluded and not "busy" with tourists.
Has anyone stayed at this location? We are planning on eating dinner in the Grand Anse/St. George area. The hotel said it is about a 30 minute drive. How are the roads?

Just got back from Grenada and loved it. You will not be disapointed with Bel Air. We ate several meals there and each was wonderful. Very intimate and a lovely setting. We actually did the reverse and stayed in Grand Anse and dined often up the coast. In retrospect I wish we had stayed at Bel Air Plantation and taken a couple of day trips to Grand Anse as it was much too crowded for us (there is always the next time!).

You will love bel Air Plantation. I have eaten there and the food is incredibly delicious. I took a complete tour of all the cottages and villas. I wish I could have stayed in any of these sumptious lodgings. Susan Fisher has thought of every detail that the words privacy, romantic and luxury mean.
It is owner run and Bel Air shows it. Enjoy your stay.

I must "ditto" everything Sandcrab said. Recently returned from a 6-day stay at
Bel Air and have nothing but accolades for
Susan and her staff. The cottages are
gorgeous and provide every amenity. More
important, IMO, is the fact that Susan is
a truly "hands on" owner. Our meals were
delicious - the chef, Craig, came out every evening to discuss our needs and those of
the other guests. His shrimp curry was the
best I have ever eaten, and I have been not
only to India but to all the "famous" Indian restuarants in London. We did not rent a car, which is something that I might do next time, since travel to Grand Anse is approximately a 30 min. drive each way and necessitates a taxi. However, I agree with a previous poster that the Grand Anse area is overrun with tourists and not relaxing. The one day we did go there we were overwhelmed with vendors, stray dogs (came back covered with flea bites!)
and some very agressive types. Bel Air is
a true refuge, which is what I needed at the time. The staff could not have been more accommodating - Sandra, the front office manager is amazing. She had every bit of
island information at her fingertips, and made every arrangement/call requested. The resort's driver, Cutie (pronounced Cutty as in Cutty Sark) is fabulous, and was
available for island tours, trips to restaurants, etc. He is extremely knowledgeable about island history, flora and fauna, education, etc. Finally, just as an indication of how thoughtful Susan is: every guest is provided at check in (at no charge for local calls) with a cell phone for the duration of their stay. While the resort is not on a beach, the staff will transport you (at no charge) to La Sagesse beach about 5 min.

ScubaMom, the website provides very accurate descriptions and photos of the different cottages. We were very fortunate to stay in one of the two-bedroom villas. The one-bedroom villas have the same amenities as the two-bedroom ones, e.g. whirlpool bath, full living room and kitchen. I did not see the interiors of the cottages, but other than size (smaller with kitchenette only and shower no bath), I do know that all accommodations are brand new, with lovely
furnishings, a.c. and overhead fans, plush bathrooms and toiletries, spanking new dishes/utensils and tvs with dvd players.
The various villas/cottages are up the hillside, necessitating a steep walk down a
nutmeg path to office and/or dining room.
This did not bother us, but would be a concern if a guest had mobility issues. While we did not rent a car, those that did were able to park closer to their cottages and avoid the walk up the path. The views from all are basically the same - all lovely views of the bay and harbor. I would not say any one has a better location than the others. Infinity pool close to all.

Scubamom - I found pictures taken by a tourist of Bel Air Plantation on the grenadaexplorer website. They are located on the "discussion board - vacation photos - January 2004" The pictures show alot more detail than the hotel website and also some great shots of the island. After seeing them, we are now counting the days until we get there.
Also, when I made my reservation I asked if it was possible to have a villa located near the bottom of the hill - which they said would be no problem.
