Beaches without rocks, powdery sand
 

I am looking for your opinion/advice as to what Caribbean Island (our first trip) to choose where there are no rocks on the bottom with that sort of powdery sand. (Money is not an issue.) We are looking for a perfect (pefect!) beach. We want to go there in a week-10 days.

hi lulubea take a look at grand cayman and provo in turks and caicos for that Perfect soft sand. both are coral based islands. the coral disintegrates into the softest powder! also it never gets hot to the touch.

grace bay beach on provo is 11 miles of great sand. some of the better hotels are point grace, the somerset, turks & caicos club, regent grand or the regent palms. or just off the provo coast is parrot cay on a private island - very secluded. on the west end of provo is amanyara - very pricey.
the absolute best sand - like talcum powder - is on the south side of the island on taylor bay beach > no resorts on taylor.

on grand cayman is 7 mile beach. also very powdery sand. they have a ritz, marriot and westin.

grand cayman has more to do. both have excellent snorkeling and diving. provo is known for great restaurants but has little nightlife.

You should also consider Anguilla as a priority as well as perhaps some of the Bahamas outislands.

Funny Virginia. The first two places to pop in my head were Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman and Grace Bay in Provo! How are the Turks and Caicos doing after the hurricane?

I agree that Grand Cayman does in fact have some perfect areas of sand along 7MB, be advised that depending where you are located on &MB, there are some areas in the southern stretch & also in the northern stretch that have some rocks/coral.

kellie, provo is fine. airport reopened after 2 days and resorts are open. they had temp loses of power in a few locations. some flooding. a couple resorts had minor damage - like screens blown off.
grand turk was hurt badly. roofs off most buildings. many buildings destroyed. almost all trees stripped or down. power out. water plant battered. south caicos and salt cay did not do well either.
the british red cross is accepting donation and are on the islands lending aid.

re rocky spots. of course no beach has No rocks - well none i've seen?? maybe thai beaches?

Forgot to say - remember that if a storm passes by it can change any beach dramatically - sometimes good sometimes bad.

There are long sections of beaches in both Anguilla and Turks and Caicos that the sand is clear and clean, with no rocks, no grasses, etc. I have been to beaches all over the world (In search for the perfect beach!) and the 2 islands have tops in the world for perfect beaches. 8-)

I vote for the T&C and Anguilla over Grand Cayman. Both I think are less touristy with Anguilla being the quitiest with lovely beaches, very nice hotels, a number of good dining options and prices to match.

I agree - Anguilla and Turks and Caicos' Grace Bay are beautiful....enjoy!

Before you jaunt off to any of these places (this year? correct?), do review where the hurricanes have passed and re-arranged those beautiful beaches.

Another vote for Grace Bay on Provo.

White Bay, Jost van Dyke, BVIs - perfection.

White Bay on Jost is great. Also love Harbour Island Bahamas for the wide pink sand beach, and yes it is pink....

After travelling to at least 16, and maybe a few more, islands in the Bahamas and the Caribbean, I'm going to agree with a few of the above.

Grace Bay, Provo and the beaches of Anguilla were the cleanest, softest sand we found. We'll be returning to Provo again in March.

That's not to say there weren't other islands with great sand, these were just the ones we liked the best.

You can't beat Anguilla! Shoal Bay Beach is Our favorite place in the world.

The poster said they want to go IN a week to 10 days -- if that's true, there is virtually nothing in Anguilla that's open in early October.

You might look at Harbour Island in the Bahamas, which has one of the top 10 beaches in the WORLD.

There's also Valentine's and Dunsmore Beach Club, as well as a few B&B's and alot of houses for rent as well.

Harbour Island used to close down during the Hurricane Season, but not so much anymore. Most of the restaurants and resorts are open year round.
