Beaches Grande Sport Ocho Rios
Quite a few of us are going to the sandals beaches grande sport on Feb. 23. I cant seem to find anything on this, however we were sold on it by our travel agent. I have read so many things about being wary of even leaving the resort.. Is this true? What about shopping at local markets? Has any one been here to this resort? and what, if any things to do off of the resort ground other than Dunns river??

I'll be in the same area that week, but not staying at the Grande Sport. My travel agent tried to sell me the same trip, but I read many bad things about Grande Sport. I'll be just down the road at the Royal Plantation. I know that there will be an excusion desk at the Grande Sport where you'll be able to sign up for a bunch of different activities. There's a mountain bike trip through the Blue Mountains that looks like fun. There's also one of those "Interact with Dolphins" places pretty close by. You can also take an excursion and go shopping. I've heard that you're plenty safe to visit the local markets during daylight. You just need to be careful, like anywhere.

Troy - You should have a great time considering that you're going with a group of friends. You must have gotten you vacation for a deal. Excursion who also posted is probably paying double to stay at the top rated Royal Plantation. Just so you know, Beaches Royal Plantation is more intimate, reserved and not the place to go with a group. Just my opinion, of course. Enjoy Grande Sport, do all of the great activities offered at the property. Golf if that's what you're into, it's a nice course. Any other ?'s

I didn't pay a lot more. I think we ended up paying $150 more a person. That's not too bad. They also had a promotion that you got $500 of free spa credit if you booked at the Royal Plantation. Soooo . . . it cost us $300 up front, but if we use the spa credit we'll save money!

Hi Troy- this resort is a blast- very sport/activity oriented and a great place for a group. I went there with some friends and would suggest that you request that you and your friends have rooms (villas) near each other since there are little private pools all over and are shared by a few villas each- this way you can all stay in the same area and have your own private pool for the group.
You can take a 4 wheel drive rainforrest tour or go to Nine Mile- Bob Marley's birthplace in addition to other tours mentioned here. Do be cautious outside the resort but don't be fearful- Jamaicans are friendly warm people but are also poor and will try and sell you things constantly. Go and have fun- eat drink dance work out and enjoy!
