Beach Family Vacation
Our whole family would like to plan their first family vacation. Adults plus kids ranching from 1 year on up to 18. Where can you go where the beach is beautiful for swimming and it doesn't take all day to get there other than Mexico and a accomdations that accomodate a family of 5 that is somewhat reasonable. Love the carribean waters but don't want the long long flights with the little ones.

Where are you starting from? - as far as what will or won't be a "long flights"?
Any reason you've ruled out Mexico. That's what seems the most obvious choice as far as a reasonably priced beach vacation that is easy to get to from the US and is family friendly.
Depending your location you might also consider Hawaii.

"Somewhat reasonable" tells us you are probably on some kind of budget and probably have been looking at 4-star and 5-star resort but found them way out of your price range. What it doesn't tell us is what you really can afford. Please give us a dollar budget for airfare, accommodation and food. Otherwise we are just guessing as to what "somewhat reasonable" means TO YOU.
Also, when is it you are planning to make this trip? Prices in the Caribbean vary greatly depending on time of year so knowing your travel dates makes it easier to work within your travel budget.
For what it is worth, Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel (all in Mexico where you say you don't want to go), the Dominican Republic and Jamaica have some of the most budget friendly resorts in the Caribbean and airfares from many major International Gateway airports to those destinations are often very competitively priced so you might want to start looking there.
