Bargaining with the Natives
 

I will be traveling to the Bahamas soon and am told that the best way to shop is to buy crafts directly from those who make them. How do I know if I'm getting a good deal on an item? Do they generally start out at double what they expect to get for it?

My dear Giz what on earth are you worrying about? Didn't you pay enough for these people to have the pleasure of your company. Just take what you want and go!!!!!SIMPLE....and no currency problems.

Giz, look around a little before you start to bargain and see what everyone else is charging. Unless you know a lot about what you're buying it's hard to tell. I usually offer half what they asked and go from there. The more you try to walk away the more you will have knocked off the price if they really want to make a sale. It's fun at first, but I think it gets very tiring after awhile. Have fun.

You sound like a cheapskate! Remember that these people depend on sales for their livlihood. Relax, your on vacation.

Yes I am on Vacation and yes it is their livlihood and I have been screwed without being kissed on several occasions contributing to their livlihood, example - buying something that I bargained down to 5 bucks only to find it in every store in town for one dollar, and there are numerous items I didn't want or need that I bought at full price to support their livlihood so don't call me cheap when you don't have the facts.
