Barbados vs St. Lucia ??

My boyfriend and I are deciding on where to get married and have narrowed it down to Barbados or St. Lucia. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Depends upon when you want to be married. I would definitely check on rainfall amounts for whenever you are considering. We love Barbados and prefer it over St. Lucia. Only been to St. Lucia once for a week and it rained 80% of the week. I had not checked this statistic prior to arranging travel.

When are you planning to travel? This year was unusual for many locations, and the locals in St. Lucia told us that even though hurricane season ends in November, their rainy season typcially ends by September. There may be a chance of showers every day (it is a lush island with rainforests), but the showers are generally brief and the sun comes back out for the day (it's not an all day rain event).

St. Lucia is a volcanic island, very lush and scenic, so-so beaches, not so easy to travel around. Barbados is a coral island, many lovely white sand beaches, lots of things to see and do, wide range of hotels, restaurants, nitelife, lovely people, more subtlely beautiful. See www.barbados.org

For historical weather averages for each month check out this site. Just type in the country you are thinking of and go from there.

I have been to St. Lucia, but no Barbados (but it is high on my list) and St. Lucia is very romantic, but the beaches are mostly gray to black sand beaches.

You've picked two very different islands.

As Xken says, Barbados is flat, essentially built on a huge block of coral. St. Lucia is rugged and shaped by volcanic action.

Barbados has a more developed tourism industry and a local culture with lots of English tradition behind it. St. Lucia is vibrant and colourful, as befits its French heritage, noting the local patois is based on French.

Barbados has much better beaches than St. Lucia. St. Lucia has better ecotourism opportunities, although there are lots in Barbados as well.

I liked St Lucia much better. It is a prettier island. Beautiful mountains.
Anse Chastanet is away from the crowds and very romantic on its own beach. I stayed there 8 days a couple of years ago. I stayed 4 days in Barbados. (Barbados is nice but one can not compare)

We just returned from Sandals Grande in St. Lucia. St. Lucia is a very beautiful island. Lush in greenery, flora, planatations, waterfalls. We've been to several Islands, but not yet Barbados. St. Lucia has to be the prettiest we've seen so far.

The beach at the Grande was quite nice. The sand a light brown. Water was warm and calm. The bottom sandy. We did do a tour that took us to a black sand beach and it was nice. The water there a little rougher. It did rain the week we were there, but it was like an on and off drizzle with a few short bursts of down pour. Annoying, but didn't ruin our vacation. I was told Novemer is the rainy season. We saw several weddings at the Grande.

We have pics on our website if interested:
