Barbados stay July or August

Will be in Barbados for a one week vacation and the only dates I have available are: July 23-30 or August 21-28.

Are there strong reasons to select one date over another?

I'm aware of the crop over festival happening in July, but don't know how this impacts tourists, postively or negatively.

Also, I'm somewhat concerned about the hurricane season factor. I know there are no guarantees weatherwise but would late July be likely to be more stable than late August or no difference?

I am unable to change my vacation dates and I am definitely travelling to Barbados, so I would really appreciate experiences from people who have stayed in Barbados at either of these two periods. Thanks!

Anyone?

While hurricanes are rare in Barbados, there occasionally is an impact. The eastern Atlantic hurricane season really only gets going in August, so if you go in July, your odds against a problem go from small to miniscule. Late August is close to peak season. Also, if there is a hurricane further north, flights could be affected. Another reason for July.

I agree with xkenx. In your case, choose the earlier travel dates because you have historical weather patterns on your side in terms of hurricanes and tropical depressions.

Barbados is a lovely island and I hope you have a great time. I've never been there during CropOver but I would imagine it to be lively & fun.

Hurricanes usually miss Barbados, so the risk isn't great. We have never been to Barbados in the summer, however, when we were there in Feb, a number of locals were telling us about the Crop Over Festival and how it was the highlight of the summer, so if I was given the opportunity to be there for that, I would choose that date. They talked about the Bajan cooking during the street fair, bands and fireworks. It sounded like so much fun!

Hi Lavendar:
I would not worry about the weather. Technically the hurricane season is 6 months long but the real chances occur in Sept. Oct. Also Barbados is very far south so they usually curve away from islands in this area.

I have built this site so that people can compare the difference between villas and hotels on Caribbean islands. http://www.wheretostay.com/caribbean...-Barbados.html

I hope you find it useful!

I was there for my honeymoon last July 2-10, and the weather was perfect. We had sprinkles one day, but overall was sunny and beautiful.
