Barbados, St Lawrence Gap area question

A coworker got free tickets using FF miles to Barbados and she is a solo female traveller, is St Lawrence Gap safe for a solo female traveller. She plans on using buese to get around and will visit the countries historic and cultural sights. Any advice fodorites can offer for a solo female traveller to Barbados?

Thanks.

She should not be walking on St Lawrence Gap at night alone. I live here and I would not do that. Depending on where she is staying there may be a shuttle available for night time travel. Generally speaking, like with any part of the world, BE SENSIBLE. Don't leave the common sense at home or in the hotel room. The big blue and yellow buses are safer than the mini buses for a solo traveler. There's more info about Barbados (what to do, where to go/eat, etc) here:

Thank you for the link bajangirl.

Is the St Lawrence Gap area any different than other parts of the island in terms of safety for a solo female?

No, any female traveling alone should always be careful, particularly at night and in places that seem a bit quiet even in the middle of the day.

While St Lawrence Gap is a great area for restaurants and hotels, and Dover Beach is a good, quiet beach, I would not recommend walking around here alone at night. While I would not venture to call it dangerous, my main issue was all the timeshare vendors here that would not leave us alone. Nonetheless, a female walking alone at night is not really recommended...
