Barbados or Turks and Caicos

My husband and I have been to a couple of islands so far; Aruba being our favorite. We are looking to book our next trip and are not aure where to travel to next. We are thinking turks or barbados. Have any of you been to both? This is what we are looking for:
great hotel property on swimmable beach with pool and/or beach service, great rest., snorkeling, local areas to visit, local "feel" and blue water. Any suggestions? I have been reading about the Sands in Turks but haven't foudn a top notch place to stay in barbados. Also still trying to figure out which island is what we are looking for. Any suggestions? Thanks
Stephanie

Barbados is varied and wonderful, with a British-Caribbean culture. The class act on the island is Coral Reef Club. Family-owned for some 50 years, and it shows. Low rise bldgs. and cottages in beautiful grounds on the edge of an underwater park. See www.barbados.org and www.coralreefbarbados.com

If snorkeling is an important consideration, you'll find it much better in the Turks and Caicos.

We have been to both, and if beach and water are your top priorities, then the Turks and Caicos win. The beach is just fabulous, the snorkeling is very good, and the water has more shades of blue than there are names for it. Having said that, we did enjoy Barbados, and we felt it had a more Caribbean feel to it than the T&Cs. It also has more things to do that are not centered around the beach/water. We had great food at both so that is a toss up IMO.

From what you describe, Coral Gardens on Provo in T&C would fill the bill perfectly. It has lovely all-suite accomodations, a glistening white, flour-soft beach, and a great restaurant. A wonderful plus is the outstanding shore snorkeling. The coral reef begins about 10 feet from the shore, and holds a dazzeling array of reef fish and soft and hard corals. Right nearby, beds of turtle grass attract huge hawksbill turtles. We saw 6 on one trip! While Provo itself does not have much of a Caribbean feel, you can take day trips to other of the T&C islands, which definitely do. Incredible place, and one of our favorites in the Caribbean.
