Barbados or St. Lucia for August Honeymoon?

My fiance and I are planning are honeymoon and having a difficult time choosing between Barbados or St. Lucia. If we were to go to Barbados we will stay at the Crane or Sandals Regency La Toc in St. Lucia? Has anyone been to these locations? Any feedback?

Congrats on your engagement!
These are 2 very different islands. I've been to both but not to either of the places you mentioned. What kind of activities are you looking to do on your honeymoon? Barbados is flatter with lots of sugar cane fields and white sand beaches. St. Lucia is very mountainous and lush-more tropical feel-with darker blue water and a yellower and even black sand beaches. My personal preference (by far) is St. Lucia, but again, it depends what you're looking to do.

If you are new to the Caribbean, Barbados is a wonderful introduction. It has some of everything the Caribbean has to offer, except a volcano. Lovely people, wide range of sightseeing, beaches, great restaurants, nitelife, nicer beaches than St.Lucia. If you like to explore and have a week, this is the island. If you want more of a self-contained holiday, a Sandals could be good.

ps If you want to snorkel, try the calm west coast of Barbados--the water can be rough at the Crane which is also in a remote location. The class act on Barbados is Coral Reef Club, family-owned for 50+ years, with all the positives that implies. Low rise plantation style accomodations, lush grounds, fine food, wade-in snorkeling. See www.coralreefbarbados.com

My preference is for St.Lucia oh Gosh what a beautiful island. Friendly and down to earth people, very good roads through pretty much windy, Mountainous, lush, tropical, very good cuisine, nightlife, simply beautiful. Not the best of beaches however there are quite a few that are really nice. In various places you can get tanned or black sand.

Barbados has better beaches but way to developed.I think you will love St.Lucia with out a doubt.

Haven't stayed at either of the Hotels you are looking at. So can't say nothing about those.

Barbados is the most British of all the islands. Very nice people and great food. The beaches and water are awesome. There's always nightlife. It's a wonderful place. We really like it a lot.
We didn't like St Lucia.
So, Barbados - hands down - the best choice.

St. Lucia is lush, the Hawaii of the Caribbean. That said, if I went there I would not stay at Sandals. I visited the resort, didn't stay there, and I don't think for the price it is comparable to some of the other resorts. Also, it's nice to be able to explore St. Lucia so I wouldn't necessarily go All-Inclusive (though maybe at some of the resorts down South).

Barbados' beaches have St. Lucia's beat. But it's not particularly lush (except on the Atlantic side, where the beaches are rocky). It is fun to explore, and easy, by renting a little car. Oh and the food at Oistens is awesome. The big party is on Friday nights, but we ate there every night. It's been 9 years but I still can't recreate the sauce they put on the fish!

I'd say St. Lucia is more honeymooney...just depends what you're looking for.

First of all, as a St.Lucian, I of course I have my bias. However, having lived in barbados for the last 3 yrs, I believe that I can give an accurately fair assessment.

The first thing I'd like to tell you is that The Crane and Sandals LaToc really aren't on equal footing at all. With those two, the Crane wins hands down. I would like to suggest Ladera resort, Jade Mountain, Anse Chastenet Resort, Cotton Bay, Discovery Bay,Windjammer Landing, The Landings, LeSport or Koko Creole if you're looking at St.Lucia. You must also consider your budget, as for a few of those I have mentioned, you pay for the view and opulence. Each has a really good website with lots of pictures. Truthfully, a Sandals anywhere in any of the islands isn't that great.

Each island is very different. From things to do to even the attitudes of the people. St.Lucia hands down, is a lot more friendly and open. That said, in relation to beaches, Barbados is the place to go. For nightclubs as well. But as a honeymoon destination, there's a reason why st.lucia keeps consistently winning no.1 honeymoon destination in the world.

At the end of the day, it really boils down to personality. St.Lucia is a lot more laid back and tranquil (which has a lot to do with our french creole influence). Barbados is more developed. I hope this helps.

Congratulations and all the best!

Bonne Chance!

very different islands, barbados much better for singles/young groups etc St Lucia world reknowned for honeymoons. Best option in St Lucia in my opinion is to include rainforest/mountains etc with beach/golf at north - have a look at deal Ladera are doing with Cap Maison should be on their web sites. You will have a great time at eitehr island though to be fair

If you go to St. Lucia may I recommend a tour guide who will give great, personalized tours. He is an ex-cop there and now has a tour business. He took exceptional care of us when we were there about 1 tr. ago, so much so that I sent him a bonus check after we arrived home. His name is Spencer Ambrose and you will find all sorts of good things about him on the St. Lucia port board on cruise critic.

Well, Ive never been to St. Lucia but we do own a home in Barbados on the beach in St. Peters. My advice is stay out of the really Touristy areas. The best hotel, small, on a beach where there are about 5 houses is a place called Cobblers Cove. Its a short bus( if you are adventurous) or cab ride to Holetown. There are also other great locals types bars like Ramshackles thats on the beach and has full moon parties, dancing, live music. There is another place called Groots thats local. My husband has had a home in Barbados for 20 years. Ive been going for about 4 years. There are some awesome hills heading toward Bathsheba. Just dont to those big resort places. You will not understand Bajan life from that type of place.
We were married at Cobblers cove by the way.

St Lucia is the best destination for a honey moon. The island has it all. Barbados used to be hot but now it's just filled with ex pat Brits and very touristy. You want to be some place special on your honeymoon and St Lucia is the perfect destination.

This thread is over 2 years old. I wonder what destination the OP chose?

Too bad most people never come back and post their decision or give a trip report.

St Lucia only on the south side of the island. See my personal travel report at www.tabhauser.com and click St Lucia.
I have been to both places and St Lucia is a better honeymoon destination but only in the south.
