Barbados on a Sunday
 

I will being going on a cruise in February of 2009 and the ship will stop in Bridgetown, Barbados on a Sunday.

What is there to do, other than the usual sightseeing?

Are there any stores open, not just necessarily @ the cruise terminal.

Stores in Bridgetown will sometimes open on a Sunday depending on the size and number of ships in - too early to tell if you will get lucky!
The usual attractions will be open like Orchid World, Flower Forest, Andromeda Gardens, Huntes Gardens, the bird sanctuary.
A good way to spend the day is to get a taxi to do an island tour - maybe share with others to keep down costs. You can also walk from the cruise ship terminal through Bridgetown to a fabulous beach with various water activities plus restaurant and bar facilities - The Boatyard.

Shopping may be limited, most stores are clsoed on sundays unless there is enough demand.

The rest of the things that can be done on a Sunday other than the usual sight seeing depends on your interest.

The beach is a good idea the Boat Yard beach bar has lots of beach festivities, water sports and so on.

If you like to body surf, the Crane Beach is a beautiful strip of beach and is great for body surfing. It is a great photo opportunity.


There is a half day catamaran cruise, you can go sailing, swiming with the turtles and just enjoy an island tour along the coast on the water.


If you like plants and trees Welchman Hall Gully is a forest to leisurely walk through.

Besides what others have said about Sunday closings, Bridgetown is a busy crowded typical Caribbean city. The real beauty and interest of the island is mostly outside the city. Along with previous sightseeing comments, I would add Harrison's Cave and a couple of well-maintained old sugar plantation homes to get a feeling for life in an earlier day---Francia Plantation or Sunbury House. I'd also avoid the crowds of a tour and take a taxi--you'll be well rewarded on one of the most lovely and diverse islands in the Caribbean.

Speaking of taking in plantation houses,

Sunbury plantation in St,Philip offers a wonderful museum depicting plantation life and on Sundays the plantation house and gardens offer a Bajan menu buffet style. That's a nice way to get a taste of Bajan food and heritage.

Plus it's near to crane beach.
