Barbados - newbie post#3 - Accommodations
Tired of richie classiee hotels or palace-like villas? Food and beverage too good to be truly local? Or, you simply want to have a short experience of how ordinary people travel? Try this.
First, head North. Not only leaving Bridgetown to Sandy Lane or Holetown, go further North. Try Saint Peter or even Saint Lucy. Our pick is Mullins Groove Apartment. MGA is a basic service apartment. It does not have direct access to shoreline. Thus, no party disturbance at night time. Yet, close enough to walk to Mullins beach in 3 minutes. It's acceptably cosy. Whether for couples or bigger families, suites are from 800 sq.ft up. Housekeeping is per 2 days. Interesting thought. Higher privacy than hotels but frequent enough for most hygiene levels. Pool is for decoration. Both sides in depth of 5 feets only. To be ordinary people, you need to cook. If worry stomach not ready for too local style food, the big Massy supermarket is around 10 minute drive south. Else, Speightstown is a truly local town that has many local stores in all aspects. Driving is also within 10 minutes. I like the area mainly for 2 reasons. First, you can reach locals who not in call to tourists in Saint Lucy. Second, you can head to downtown like a rural resident. Second and a half, you can access both the northern east coast and southern east coast in equal time consumption. |
