Barbados--another island close?
If we chose to go to Barbados, is there another island nearby that we could go to in order to split up our trip...this would be for our honeymoon...we'd prefer somethign that might have a ferry/boat or short flight...any suggestions?
Thanks!!! |
We just returned this week from a Barbados/St. Lucia vacation. It's only a 35-minute flight (though packing and doing the airport runs/waits made for a longer travel day than I'd anticipated, but it's still very do-able).
In St. Lucia we stayed at a wonderful place called Ti Kaye Village, which is really perfect for honeymooners. For your added info, Grenada is another island we had considered going from Barbados to (we specifically were looking at La Luna). Hope this helps, PatC |
I would suggest one of the Vincentian Grenadines - Bequia for the laid-back atmosphere of the old time Caribbean, Young Island (St. Vincent) for 'resort' life, Mustique if you have an abiding interest in the rich and famous (and the $$ to indulge the interest !). All are available via short air hop from Barbados - Air Mustique or SVG Air. Time in the air is 45 minutes to one hour but also, as Pat C says, factor in time to and from the airports as well as check in, customs etc.
There is no ferry service from Barbados to the Grenadines. |
We went to Petit St. Vincent for a week & then Barbados for 4 days before returning home. We loved the combination of total privacy & then more activities to get us acclimated to returning home.

I would definitely do a Barbados/Grenadine split. The Grenadine islands are small enough that a few days would do it. Grenada and St. Lucia are bigger and you may not be able to fit everything in. You don't want to be over-scheduled on your honeymoon!

From Barbados on two different occasions we split our trip. Once we went to St. Lucia and stayed a week at Ladera. The resort was lovely, but it rained heavily the entire week - it was in July or August I believe. They get much more rain there than other islands - that's why it's so lush.
Another year we went over to Grenada for a few nights - it rained too, but not as much. We preferred the beaches in Barbados better. We stayed at Calabash and it was wonderful. I believe we had room #1 - upstairs closest to the beach. Breakfast was served in our suite each morning, we had a jacuzzi. Dinner each evening at their restaurant was wonderful - it was well-know for it's food. I believe they have a website if you do a search for Ladera. I've also been told the Grenadines are wonderful - especially for a sailing trip. We've never done that, however. Lois |
We stayed at Palm Island in the Grenadines in January of this year. We flew from Barbados to Union Island (about 55 minutes) and then a quick 5 minute boat ride. Would highly recommend!
