Bahia Principe(San Juan) or Hotel Occidental (Playa Dorada)?
Help! These travel brochures make every resort seem wonderful.
My wife and I are planning a trip to the Carribean or Mexico in December for 2 weeks. The Dominican Republic seems interesting. I understand that the southern beaches are better. True? Anybody stayed at the Bahia Principe or Hotel Occidental? How was your stay? Did you select the all inclusive option? Any good resorts to recommend on the south coast (I think the 2 I mentioned are in the North)? Thanks for any information.

Glenn! where did you decide to go? we had the same decision. We have booked at Bahia Principe next month. We were in Santo Domingo last year and had a wonderful vacation, also to Mexico [Mazatlan] I much prefered D.R. I hope you happen to look back at this. Tell us all about your trip!

We stayed at the Bahia Principe from jan 7/99 - jan 21/99, the resort is beautiful but extremely large. The beach is ok, but they're are definitely better ones, close enough to visit. We went all inclusive and were a little disappointed in the food, breakfast and lunch were great, dinner left a little to be desired. Overall a great vacation, if you want further info just let us know and we'll be happy to provide any other details.

Message: I'm planning trip to north coast of DR in April. Haven't decided on a hotel yet. Open to suggestions.
Looking for casino,long beach,mountain
views. Is it necessary to rent car?
How bad was hurricane damage? Like the
idea of all-inclusive, but like diverse
cultural menues. KIM: Did you happen to visit any other hotels on your trip?

Myself and two friends stayed at the Bahia Principe and had a great time. We took the all-inclusive option. Large hotel with I think 4 restaurants to choose from--Mexican, AMerican, International and Italian. We ate 2 al a carte meals which were delicious we all had sirloin steak and loved it. It rained one day for a little, one day of overcast but thre rest of the week was great. Animation Team was great, they had a Canadian Duo music group that was super friendly. Drinks served until 11pm. After that you can go just outfront of the hotel and there is a strip with a Casino (small one) Karoake Bar, Disco and street party. We loved the night life and would definately return the people were great. The Bahia itself we found simple and very clean Hope you have a great time. Tina
