Bahamas weather - late march?
I'm looking to get away from NYC and relax at the beach...I'm wondering if the Bahamas would be a "reliable" choice for a beach vacation for 4-5 nights in late March (25th-30th)? Just looking hang out at the beach for hours a day, read a few good books, catch up on my rest.... I don't care about food or cuisine (I almost prefer non-AI for that particular reason, I don't eat much particularly in warmer weather/at the beach/in foreign country)... while I drink occasionally, unlimited booze is not what I'm looking for on this trip... I'm not high maintenance so I don't need bells & whistles in my room, but the option of a massage/spa would be nice, and I don't really want to be "confined" to the resort necessarily...
I will be traveling alone, from NYC and am not really looking to spend over an exorbitant amount of money since I'll probably do a nicer vacation this summer, this is just to get away from the city, get a tan & chill out for a few days....
Any recommendations would be helpful, thanks!

The Bahamas consists of over 800 islands and cays and stretches over a fairly large distance so the "weather" during march can be significantly different in the northern most islands when compared to the soouthern most islands.
You can research "average" wetahter statistics for the Bahamas at www.weather.base.com.
If you want more detailed weather statistics for a spoecific island in the Bahamas you'll find that data at: www.wunderground.com

Went last April week after Easter to Freeport Grand Bahama Island and weather was a coolish mid 70's, sun felt warm when it was occasionally out, but overall I was disappointed in the weather. Grand Bahama Island is a Northern Island and this was normal for that time of year according to the locals. Will not return.

I've been to The Bahamas almost every month of the year over the since 1986 and to be honest March can be iffy, but statistically you will probably run into temps in the upper 70s during the day and in the 60's in the evening. You can certainly lay in the sun, and hop in a pool, but the ocean might be a bit on the cool side.
I'd suggest Nassau as probably a good location for you and there are several places to stay. If you are looking for a bit more laid back I'd suggest Orange Hill or Compas Point, both are outside of downtown, but there is a jitney to take you downtown all day long.
Some GOOD shopping downtown Nassau, and a few sites to see. Also the Ardastra Zoo and Garden is a nice day visit, and the Queens Garden is across the street. (www.orangehill.com is the website).
You might check some of the dicount websites for deals on the Bahamas in March like hotwire, travelocity and a good one for the carribean is www.libertytravel.com.
Have a GREAT time.

Wunderground.com has a great feature called "Travel Planner". It lets you see what the actual temps were for any given range you choose over the last 10 years. I looked at this last year when planning a March trip and based on what I saw for the Bahamas ( Nassau) I chose St. Martin so I was guaranteed at least 80 degrees every day.
