Bahamas Suggestions for Older Couple
 

My wife and I welcome suggestions about where to go and stay in the Bahamas during February - March 2019 (I have been, she has not). We will probably go for 3 - 4 weeks so expect to find a rental just for ourselves. We like the beach but also would like to have the option for more to do in terms of dining out, shopping, etc. We are not particularly into casinos. And we don't want to rent a car but are willing to hire someone to explore the area (day trip). The big hotels are not appealing for a long stay. Also, any timeframe for visiting advice regarding the weather is appreciated. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The Bahamas, especially the ones in the northern portion of the chain, can be cool in February, with average daytime temperatures only in the mid-70's. The islands in the southern portion of the chain will be slightly warmer. You can go to Travel Weather Averages (Weatherbase) to research general weather statistics for the Bahamas as well as many of the out-islands to determine if they will have temperatures that will be warm enough for you. Keep in mind, the "Out Islands (as they are know) can be sparsely populated with limited number of restaurants, things to do and because everything is very spread out you'll definitely need a car unless you are willing to spend big bucks for a private driver/guide to show you around..

Personally, in February I'd go someplace further south - look at islands like Anguilla, Nevis, St. Kitts and Grenada as they will have more of what you are seeking without out the crowds and large hotels you want to avoid.

Agree with the suggestions to move further south Puerto Rico or below is my guide for guaranteed good weather and warm water temps. A condo on Grand Cayman's 7 mile beach would be a good option. Not a hotel and you have your space but also close to town for dining, shopping. Other activities such as botanical gardens, turtle farm, etc available for a little variety.

If you are looking for somewhere like the Bahamas, Puerto Rico will disappoint. Islands such as Anguilla, Grenada, Grand Cayman, Barbados, Antigua are better options IMO.
