Sorry to be a downer, but I hate to anyone waste hard earned money on a bogus trip. The Bahamas are just not that great. That's why there are so many el cheapo deals going there. The locals are rude and the food is terrible (unless you can survive as I did on conch fritters and Kalik beer). We canceled a number of things on our credit cards due to the fact that can't reason with anyone if you have a problem. Nassau is a busy little place with lots of crime and very little to see. The photos you see of beautiful deserted beaches have been taken somewhere else. There are so many other places to see in this world that are nicer and have good package deals. If you do go, DO NOT ride in a small shuttle boat from Paradise Island with a man named "Fat Back".

Keith -- I've got to disagree with the gentleman (Scott) who wrote the negative comments above. I used to live in Florida, and we'd go over to the Bahamas all the time and always had a blast. I think that if you go to Nassau, you will have a better vacation if you stay on Paradise Island. If you can afford the Atlantis - it's the greatest! But if you can't - the Comfort Suites Hotel and Paradise, Paradise both give you "guest priviledges" at the Atlantis - and are great alternatives. The Paradise, Paradise is older, and the rooms are spartan-- but their beach is absolutely fantastic (Even better than the Atlantis - it's adjacent to the Club Med). The Comfort Suites is just across the street from the Atlantis, and much newer - it's more convenient to using the Atlantis facilities, but it is not on the beach. By the way, the value of using the Atlantis facilities is that they charge $30 per person, per day, to use their pool-lagoon facility if you are not a hotel guest or have "guest priviledges". There's plenty of diversions (water sports, Booze'n'Cruise, swim with the dolphins, Rose Island tour, city tour, casinos) to keep you occupied and have a make for a memorable vacation. A good friend of mine - hates Nassau - much like the gentlemen above... but she likes different kinds of vacations that I do. She prefers the "out islands" and more quiet vacations. I went with her for a week and was bored out of my mind -- I can't just sit on the beach for 7 days in a row!! So you have to know what your own definition of Paradise is!

I also disagree with Scott. But it does depend on what your vacation preferences are. We have been to the Bahamas 3 times(2 times alone and once with our children). We stayed at the Crystal Palace in Cable Beach and had a fantastic time. They upgraded us to a suite that we could never afforded otherwise. It's a safe, fun, friendly island. We have been to St. Martin, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and each has its pros and cons. We are going to stay at the Atlantis in Paradise Island this August. It's suppose to be great. A good place to lose the kids!
