Bahamas or Puerto Rico

Need input from the experts.... you guys! Have a chance to travel with a girlfriend to take in some sun (I'm from Seattle). She prefers casinos, fine wine and great dining. I like to snorkel, casual hikes and easy bike rides. Can anyone recommend an elegant (non-atlantis) hotel/resort in either Bahamas or Puerto Rico? Thanks for your input.

Cari, a very nice place is the Best Western- British Colonial Beach Resort in Nassau. Has water sports in its own beach.A nice place next to the Atlantis is the Comfort Suites in Paradise Island. I won't even mention Puerto Rico because is 2/12 hours further than the Bahamas. Your trip is quite long. Personally, It's not a choice, P.R. wins hands down. But for your plans Paradise Island is perfect.

Cari, I think I have the perfect suggestion for you, try Nassau for a few days, (casino and shopping for her) at say Compas Point (all the casual elegance for you)

Compas Point is on New Providence, Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas and a cab or bus ride away.

It is a beautiful complex, and you can snorkle right off the beach, or take a snorkle trip or swim with dolphins.

There is a wonderful restaurant there and the accomodations are small bungaloos on the beach, very romantic.

The resort is owned by Chris Blackwell of Island Records so lots of attention is paid to detail. The place is very charming and welcoming to guests.

Have a wonderful trip and enjoy the Bahamas.

tweedy

LA ISLA DEL ENCANTO. Puerto Rico is claled The island of enchantment. I lived there for 2 years and love it. I would recommend staying at the San Juan Marriott. It has its own casino and dancing. Its great for people watching. Puertoricans put on their best cloth on week-end nights and the music is great. From here you can walk a few blocks to the casino at Condado Plaza Hotel and many others like the Old San Juan. Perhaps San Juan has a more natural ambience than Bahamas. If youdont visit this time, be sure to visit at another time or as part of a cruise stop off.

Went to Puerto Rico last year with 3 girlfriends & a had a great time. We stayed at the San Juan Marriot. They have 2 restaurants (I think) & a casino. A really nice place. During the day we went snorkeling, walked around Old San Juan & just relaxed on the beach. At night we went to the casinos & dance clubs. The El San Juan Hotel is beatiful (a little out of our price range, though). It has a casino and a great lounge and dance club. Everyone dresses up at night to go to the casinos & clubs, even on the weeknights.
I will be going to the Bahamas to Breezes in 3 weeks....e-mail me if you haven't chosen a place yet, and I'll let you know how it was.
Either way, have fun
