Bahamas or Hawaii honeymoon
Just doing some investigating. In the US forum most everyone prefers Hawaii over the Carribean. For a honeymoon, which do you prefer, Hawaii or Nassau/ Paradise Island, Bahamas. Please explain why.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

BELIEVE me, I have been to Nassau, Bahamas, and other Caribbean islands, AND there is NO comparison!!!!! Been to
Hawaii FIVE times and its our family's
favorite spot. Also went on our Honeymoon. Sheraton Waikiki HOTEL has a real good OCEANfront room with balcony,
transfers from airport, $ 25.00 food money each day, and get ONE night FREE!
Its really a good deal for the price.
You might have to call the hotel directly in Hawaii, if the 800 number says it is not available. The hotel itself has more extra rooms available.
ALSO- our favorite place to stay is the Waikiki Outrigger on the beach- but it is across from International Market place. Look up their site on internet.
Sometimes they have good 30% and UP discounts,. -- We also went TWICE on
CRUISE in Honolulu - 7 days and you go to all islands, without un-packing and flying!!

Hawaii hands down! Don't miss it! The Big Island has tons to offer...Maui...what can I say!?! Next to the Caymans, Hawaii is my favorite place to go!
|
ALWAYS choose Hawaii over the Caribbean!
Nassau = poverty and ugliness!
Hawaii = great beauty, wonderful standard of living and culture, safety!!

I agree with the above posters. Hawaii is hard to beat. The caribbean is great because it is close, but for true paradise Hawaii wins hands down. The only place I have been to rival Maui and Kauai would be Moorea. I could move permanently to either Moorea or Maui and be perfectly happy. There are those who will tell you that St. Lucia is the "Hawaii" of the caribbean. DON'T BELIEVE IT!!

I guess I'm the only one who would prefer the Carribean over Hawaii. I've been to Oahu twice, the Big island once, and Maui twice. I would never go to Oahu on my honeymoon. Way too crowded and busy. I love Maui but haven't been to the Big island in almost 20 years. We took our kids to St. Thomas last summer and had the greatest time. It is not as clean as Hawaii, but we loved the culture. The water in the Carribean is the most beautiful water I have ever seen. We are in no hurry to go back to Hawaii, but are already planning when our next Carribean trip will be.

Hi Brooke,
As I've said many times, we each have our own expectations of what a great resort should be. For our honeymoon we wanted to get away to a beautify, yet secluded to spot, and be pampered. My suggestions, in order of preference, follow:
1. Petit St. Vincent Resort - Its in the Grenadines adjacent to Barbados
2. Vomo Island Resort - Fijian Islands
3. Princeville Resort - On the island of Kaua'i.
Enjoy!
Maui hands down is my all time favorite. We stayed at the Four Seasons and were treated like royalty. I have been to Nassau/Paradise Island as well, save that for a quick weekend trip, not for your honeymoon! We went to Maui for our first wedding anniversary in October and it was incredibily romantic! Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip!

Another thing to consider is how much money and time you can spend on your honeymoon. If you're on the East Coast, going to the Bahamas is FAR cheaper and less time-consuming than going to Hawaii; as you get further west the balance may shift to going to Hawaii as far as price/time is concerned.

I've never been to Hawaii but I did enjoy my trip to New Providence Island near Nassau. The city of Nassau itself is very commercialized and less *romantic*-feeling in my opinion than other places (particularly when the cruise ships are in) I've been. However, overall the island of New Providence (island that houses Nassau) does have beautiful beaches/turquoise water though, a unique gastronomical scene and an undeniable quasi-Caribbean charm. I'm sure you could have a delightful honeymoon there (as you probably could in Hawaii).

I've been to all the Hawaiian Islands and most of the Caribbean Islands. I believe I like the Caribbean, but not particularly Nassau/Paradise Island. The blue waters are beholding to both. My experience is that the Bahama culture as with other Caribbean islands is layed back and in no rush to serve you. (If you even think you are hungry go an hour early...it will take you that long to get your order placed.) Being from the Eastern United States I enjoy having the Caribbean in our time zone, as apposed to Hawaii being 6 hours behind our schedule. That takes a bit of adjusting.

Hi, Brooke.

I haven't been to the Carribean yet (planning trip now), but I can say I honeymooned in Hawaii 2 years ago...1 week on Maui at Hyatt (WONDERFUL!!!) and 1 week on Oahu.

It was a wonderful vacation, and would highly recommend it. BUT I would't go to Oahu -- I would stay on Maui. If you do, be sure to catch a sunrise on Mt. Haleakala (sp?) -- you have to get up very early, but watching the sun rise from ABOVE the clouds was soooo romantic.

Good luck and congratulations on your upcoming nuptials.

De Anna

Hawaii vs the Bahamas, wow, apples and oranges in a lot of ways. But if you're looking at a big resort vacation, It's the Atlantis(Paradise island) vs any number of Hawaii resorts. That's a tough call.
If you're looking at more modest accommodations, I wouldn't recommend Nassau, but the Bahama out islands are full of absolutely charming and unaffected people, plus an ocean Hawaii dreams of.
Hawaii is more disneyfied (not always a bad thing on vacation), and Oahu and Maui both have real traffic problems. The beautiful mountains and rainforests found here have no counterpart in the Bahamas.
A friend of ours who has spent much time in both places says to think of the Caribbean islands as blue, Hawaii as green. That is, Ocean vs Land.
Good luck, I hope this posting isn't too late to help. Or did it just muddy the water?
I have been to Hawaii and the Bahamas, as well as Tahiti and many Caribbean Islands. I think the criteria for what you would like on your honeymoon is important in your decision. Do you prefer a quiet destination or a more active, commercial one? Do you plan to spend more time at a beach or pool, shopping or sightseeing or just vegging on the beach? Do you want a spectacular room close to nature or a modern hotel room? There are so many different types of hotels/accomodations. We just returned from St. Lucia, which is a popular honeymoon destination. It was wonderful. We honeymooned in Tahiti, which was also incredible and we got engaged in Hawaii. If I can answer any questions for you, feel free to email me.
