Bahamas/Nassau question

I'm spending a week on Staniel Cay and trying to decide how to get there. I'm leaning towards flying in to Nassau, spending the nite and getting some sort of charter the next day.

My question is, can anyone recommend a nice, clean and cheap hotel near the airport in Nassau and does anyone know a good reliable charter service to get out to Staniel Cay with?

I've stayed at the Orange Hill Beach Inn when overnighting in Nassau before/after trips to Out Islands. It's close to the airport, reasonably priced, and clean; it's also close to a nice walking beach.

Have you checked the Staniel Cay Yacht Club website for charter suggestions? The out-of-the-way resorts have a vested interest in making sure you get there safely and efficiently.

A really colorful fun place to stay close to the airport is Compass Point. The have one of the better restaurants too.

does bahamas Air fly there? That would be your best bet.

There are flights (charter) from Ft. Lauderdale, you may want to go from there. You could even stay at Seminole Hard Rock Resort and Casino close by. Sometimes it's easier to get to the Out Islands from Ft. Lauderdale than Nassau!

I recently researched the same thing but ended up booking a flight into Ft. Lauderdale and tickets to SC on Watermakers (May 2009). When I was looking at going through Nassau (trying to use free FF tickets there), I had gotten information from a friend who had recently flown Flamingo Air from NAS to SC so you might want to try them although it is regularly scheduled service, not charter. I agree with Orange Hill for the cheaper alternative to "close to the airport"- we stayed there in April overnight both going to and returning from Eleuthera. It was convenient and well priced- the best part was that our room actually had a nice view (beach across the street) and we enjoyed a nice long walk both times we were there. By the way, we walked down the street to Traveller's Rest for dinner- not fancy but good. We rented a car and went exploring for a day when we came back though New Providence and Compass Point looked very nice- it just cost more and I was looking at the bottom line for overnight accommodations. When are you going to SC?

we are booked for staniel cay in june 2009 after being re-routed this past august by hurricane fay. the day before we were due to leave, watermakers called us to tell us that they werent positive that they could get us out of ft lauderdale and offered a refund or a re-book within the year....nice! as it turned out they didnt fly out all week!

after a ton of phone calls, all was not lost, my childhood friend and i flew to bermuda for a week of sun and fun....ok, so we didnt have our own boat, nor did we have the opportunity to swim with pigs, but we did have a blast...spent a bit more money than planned, but it was definately worth it!

we cannot wait to go in june...it looks amazing and i just got an email about their new villa....looks divine!!

the out islands are amazing and we are looking forward to just chillin' out and enjoying each other's company...without any worries....!

all the best,
albee
