bahamas hotel rec needed

would like some lodging suggestions for a multi couple, leave kids at home long wknd to bahamas...looking for fun adult resort in moderate to high price range, perhaps slightly less structured than AI, although we're open to AI if it isn't too cheesy. just need to get away and have fun, good pool, good bars, no hassles etc...any suggestions?

Check-out Our Lucaya on Grand Bahama Island. Starwood (parent comapny for Westin & Sheraton) has just taken over managment or the $400,000,000. resort. You can catch Airtran direct to the island starting from $89 each way plus taxes. The Island offers over 120 miles of private beaches, casinos, shopping and of course watersports.
What comes to mind are Pink Sands on Harbour Island or Compass Point on Nassau and Ocean Club on Paradise Island.

I'd have to go with Nassau too, as there are several resorts of varying price ranges, lots of restaurants, golf, tennis, horse back riding, shoping, and nice beaches.

Look into Compas Point which is a beautiful resport, great restaurant on site and beautiful grounds.

If you want something a little more laid back, I would also suggest Harbour Island as well as an earlier poster.

There are several nice resorts on island, several good restaurants, 2 dive operations so lots of great snorkle and dive spots, including a Civil War Train, sunk on a barge in a hurricane.

I would suggest the www.briland.com board for more information or www.romorabay which is a very nice resort on island, with package deals available.

Have a great time.

i would recommend old bahama bay in freeport. actually it is on the side of the island there is very little. away from those large crowds of people. it is a beautiful property. the room was lovely. decorated very much the same as four seasons nevis. beach and pool were great. when we were there in june of 2001 they were adding on to the restaurant(only one at that time) the food was very good and lots of selections-wonderful fresh seafood. the service was very good. very nice gym. a nice place to spend a long week-end. we flew airtran through atlanta-very reasonable fares. hotel sends a van to pick you up at the airport.(about 30-45 minutes) well worth the ride. they have a good website under the name. hope this was helpful.
