Back from Allgro

Just got back from Turks Allegro.
This was our first trip to Turks but not our last.
Allegro wasn't our first choice by any means but having become spoiled by all inclusives in the past and with Point Grace and numerous other places being closed we took a great price from Allegro and decided to have a semi all inclusive vacation.
It was my husband and I for just 4 nights for a quick birthday trip from the west coast. We has just gone on a 3 week trip to Jamaica and FLA 6 weeks before and were trying to cram in one last tropical trip of the year.

The resort, I had read and heard horror stories.
Check in was the quickest ever. Room was in perfect condition. Not one thing was wrong with it. It isn't a nice room by my standards more like a ramada and not at all what I usually have on a vacation. It had a coffee pot and more cable channels then half the american hotels I stayed in this year. We had a large balconey and a peak of the beach. Since we were only there for 4 nights it suited our needs as we planned to spend most of our time out and about.

Food. First off I am not a gourmet eater and don't eat chicken, seafood, steak etc. So I was happy. Hubby does love to dine and the nicer the better for him.
I loved the made to order pasta and sandwhiches and was more then happy with the selection and found it just as adequate as most Sandals type buffets. He liked it OK but of course it isn't what he would have preferred. Carusos the Italian Restaurant he loved. He had 2 appetizers and 2 main dishes and loved the food.
We didn't do the carribbean restaurant as we went to Danny Buoys to eat.
Resort facilities. It was maybe 30 percent booked. Excelllant service everywhere for us. No problem finding shade, chairs, drinks etc. Bring your own raft they don't have any.
Beach is spectacular.
September is the off season and most things were closed. All the restaurants at Ports of Call. Hemmingways, Graces Cottage everything within walking distance with the exception of Danny Buoys was closed.

I will be back!! Though I want to stay longer and most likely will stay elsewhere though I wouldnt turn down a week at Allegro either.

Monique: Thanks for the trip report. Am scheduled to leave for Allegro on Nov. 9. I was at first very anxious since I had read some of the horrific posts about Allegro, but it seems that if one goes there expecting the Ritz Carlton, they certainly will be disappointed. As long as the plumbing works and the sun is shining, I'll be happy. I'm curious - how was the weather when you were there? Is the sun very strong? Will SPF 15 sun block do or do we need stronger? Also, did you tip at all? Some posts indicated they received better service when they tipped. What type of room did you have? We have booked a standard room, but I am wondering if we should upgrade to an oceanfront?
Any info you could give me would be great.
Thanks

We use SPF 45. If you upgrade just make sure it isn't in the building that overlooks the stage.

We did not tip other then to the guy that brought our bags to our rooms. I had great service for the most part.
The staff isn't as friendly as say Jamaica but the service was more then adequate.
I would urge you to use high SPF sunscreen. I still am burnt from not using sunscreen during a private island getaway where I should have used more on places that don't usually see the sun. ;)

We didn't ask for a room upgrade and were fine with our room for what we had paid. The upgraded rooms aren't much fancier in our opinion but to each his own.

Whoa!! We are staying at the Comfort Suites for one night in November, and I just assumed we would have dinner at Ports of Call. Are all of the restaurants there closed???????

They were when I was there. They said they were closed for 2 months but I am not sure when that started and when that ended. Hemmingways was closed as well as Graces cottage. Kind of a bummer. I did think Danny Buoys had great food though so try there. :D
