Aruba Wind??
Hello,
We are seriously considering Aruba to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversay. I love everything I have read about it. We are looking into the Bucuti resort. The only thing I am concerned about is the wind. I have read several negative comments. We would be going sometime between September - November. I would appreciate any first hand "wind" or other, reports. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out. Cindy

We spent a fabulous week in Aruba in Jan 1997. The tradewinds only served to make the temperature more enjoyable. We never felt it was "too windy" nor were we sand-blasted on Palm Beach.

We would go back in a heart beat. Don't worry, you'll love Aruba if you like the water and the sun.

We went to Aruba for our 25th too. We went in May and the winds were a problem. When we walked the beach and they kicked up we were sandblasted. I WOULD NOT let this stop me from visiting Aruba tho.

BTW..we also had the same problem last year on Klein Bonaire. Must be a local thing. LOL
Although I was in Aruba in February, not the time you are planning to go, the winds made sitting on the beach almost impossible and very uncomfortable. That sand hurt and most people admitted they sat at pools to avoid the wind ... and the wind made it cooler so they could! I don't go to the Caribb to sit at a pool. Isladers told me that the winds do increase even more thru Spring and mentioned August thru November as being times for "less wind." Not sure that I would buy it tho ... and it seems that the wind is a year-round thing ... just stronger during certain times ... those DiviDivi Trees are bent over from constant strong winds!!! Unlike Cheri, the winds and other things will stop me from returning to Aruba!!

Will Aruba be windy in April, too?
|
Hi Cindy and Katherine: We have been to Aruba in jan. and in May and if I had the opportunity to go in Sept. or April I'd be there in a flash. In May it was extremely hot and I was glad for those trade winds. The breeze is a most welcome relief at mid day. We spent very little time at the pool most time walking the beach ect. Aruba is the perfect place for a fun in the sun vacation. In Sept. the Caribbean is an iffy place to visit because of the hurricanes and Aruba is out of the path. That alone would be reason enough to forget about the occasional grain of sand being air borne. Have a great time on this extremely friendly and safe island.Karen

We went to Aruba for the first time over New Years this year. The wind was never a problem for us. It was welcome, because without it, it would have been too hot. We did experience rain every day, as it was the end of the rainy season. But it blew right through every time and was never a problem for us either. We were unhappy with our resort though. We stayed at the Bushiri, merely adequate. If you go, don't miss the Jolly Pirate ship snorkel and sail.

My husband and I were there in June, 1997. It was windy, but we did NOT get sand-blasted. It is a nice relief from the hot sun. We will definitely return to Aruba (probably several more times).

We went to Aruba and stayed at the Americana (it's not called that now) and we had an amazing time. We went just after Easter and the temperatures were hot and the breeze kept us all comfortable (we had a 4 month old baby with us and a 4 year old!).

It's important to know some hotels have a terrible problem with wind all the time. The American (right next to the Hyatt) was in the middle of the strip and the wind was never a problem. BUT we went for a walk down the beach once and were rewarded with terrible whipping wind that hurt terribly. We felt like we were in a desert storm. Of course we laughed as we shielded the kids and ran back to sanity at the American. Once we crossed the line to our hotel the wind calmed down. I can't imagine being on the beach with that kind of wind.

Be warned, choose your hotel carefully or face the wicked wind!

Most of Palm Beach does tend to be less windy than Eagle Beach in that the large high rise hotels along Palm Beach block some of the wind. Wind however IS NOT a reason to bypass Aruba.

http://www.angelfire.com/nj/ArubaExperts
