Aruba Questions for daughter's honeymoon
 

My daughter is getting married next Oct 21st, and we are taking care of the honeymoon for their wedding gift. I am looking at Aruba since it is outside the hurricane belt, but need to know the good websites to research.....

Also hotel recommendations????? Requirements, best beach location, nice pool, nice rooms, 4 or 5 star.............

Key decision is whether you want the "high-rise" area (Palm Beach) or "low-rise" (Eagle Beach).

Eagle is less crowded, slightly bigger waves, smaller hotels with fewer amenities. Best choice there is Bucuti Resort.

Best hotels on Palm are probably Radisson and Hyatt; also might look at Marriott or Wyndham. These are all BIG places with casinos, multiple restaurants/bars, etc.

Aruba's a good choice, esp. during hurricane season.

A honeymoon is a great wedding gift! It is smart to look outside of the hurricane belt at that time of year. There are some other islands that are also safe, including Curacao, Bonaire, Trinidad and Tobago. You know your daughter best as to what she would like. I assume she is in her 20's and is looking for a place to unwind after the wedding as well as enjoy her new husband. However, if she is looking for more of a cultural eperience as well, one of the other islands may be a better choice.

If you decide on Aruba, I would suggest-
- Renaissance, which has an upscale private island, which they may enjoy as it's their honeymoon. Privacy, mimosa's and great staff
- Marriott - The bathrooms have two sinks and plenty of counter space. Big rooms. My personal favorites in a hotel.
- Hyatt - Very elegant, nice pool.

What a nice gift to your daughter! Aruba is a great destination and we enjoyed our vacation there. We stayed at the Marriott, and it was great. The nicest hotel I saw was the Hyatt. I would also recommend the Radisson and the Bucuti mentioned above. Bucuti is basically an adults only hotel. They discourage children. I have not seen it, but have heard about it. I remember a poster a while ago, who when I mentioned that Bucuti Beach was Adult-only, said he/she was looking for a quiet resort with "nothing funny going on".

The phrase 'Adult only' is very open to interpretation ;-) according to the Bucuti Beach website - they don't 'encourage' children and the Tara Suites are 2 person max!

Perhaps after they've renovated the main hotel they'll clarify this.

My understanding is that children are not allowed in the Tara Suites and are "not encouraged" in the rest of the hotel.

As far as I know, there is no place in Aruba that is 100% adults-only and the Bucuti is probably as close as you can get to it.

Likelihood of kids is greater during school holiday periods and summer. Quite a bit of toplessness on that part of the beach. We stayed next door at the Manchebo with our 14-year-old and he found it quite interesting.

There was a hurricane warning out for Aruba last fall when Ivan went through and luckily Ivan just missed Aruba, but there was major flooding , beach errosion, and damage to some hotels.

Bad weather can happen anywhere. I think for an October honeymoon Aruba is probably the most safe bet for a Caribbean destination. Everyone raves about the Bucuti for a honeymoon. Your daughter is a lucky gal to have you paying for the honeymoon. Have fun with your research!

It really is a wonderful place to get away from your 'Little Darlings' and why when it's just the 2 of you would you want to have to put up with other peoples 'Little Darlings'? :-)

Very relaxing and quiet but easily accessible to watersports, restaurants and Downtown.

I just wish there were more places like Bucuti Beach :-(

I will definitely book us at the Bucuti once our "little darling" isn't traveling with us any more. Haha, Who am I kidding; our "little darling" will probably always travel with us as long as Mom and Dad are paying and I'm not complaining; I love having her with us. We had dinner at the Pirate's Nest in late June. It was our first look at the Bucuti. It's quaint, quiet, their beach is beautiful and I can see why it gets so many rave reviews. The Pirate's Nest unfortunately was just so-so but with so many other great places to eat that wouldn't stop me from staying at the Bucuti.
