Aruba - Eagle Beach

Is the water rocky & is it necessary to bring surf shoes? (Staying at Bucuti.)

Oh -- also, can we stay casual (shorts, sundresses, sandals, but never sloppy) the whole time? Does my hubby need long pants, collared shirts? I read two opposite posts on this issue - one says Aruba is more formal than everybody thinks, another says it's totally informal - but maybe there are different "rules" for different times of year. We'll be there September.

Thanks for any info on this & on beach, too.

We were at Bucuti a number of years ago - I remember Eagle Beach and the restaurant at Bucuti ('Pirate's Nest' or something?) as being VERY informal. (On the other hand, my husband always brings long pants and wears them in the evening, he just feels it's rude to wear shorts at ANY restaurant in the evening; beach bars are different of course.) So it's your choice, basically; I don't there will be any problem if you dress informally. BTW, we were there several times in August.

We have vacationed in Aruba many times and it is a very informal island. The only time I dressed up (sundress) was at L'Escale which is a more elegant restaurant. Men do wear bermudas to dinner, my husband just prefers long pants and a polo shirt. I never need surf shoes but I bring mine--they're great on boats. We visited the Bucuti and it is situated on a very large beautiful beach--and it was quiet. Next door at the Manchebo, you will enjoy the French Steakhouse, has an Ambassador's Special-$40 each with a bottle of wine--it's great. We normally rent a car, if that is an option for you--if you do drive out to Baby Beach (follow Seroe Colorado signs). Have a great time--we're returning in December.

I can't help you with your questions because we haven't been yet. But, I'm like you and seem pack a lot more than I need! When will you be there in September? My husband and I will be at the Bucuti from Sept 25 - October 2.

Thanks for the very helpful posts.
Jane -- We'll be there Labor Day week, so we'll be missing each other. What type of room have you picked?

I hope both of you post reports on Bucuti when you return. My husband and I will be there at the end of October.

Rocks on Eagle Beach?
where did you hear that?
Absolutely untrue..only heavenly white sand..no need for surf shoes. Leave them at home.

Yes, I will post a trip report in September when we return.

Eagle beach is one of the best rated beaches in the Caribbean. That beach is great...no rocks or surf to worry about and the sand is white and smooth like sugar.
