Arrival in St Barth
 

Hi everyone, this is my first post! I'll be flying in to St Barth from St Maarten. How far is the airport from Gustavia? From the map it looks like it's only one mile. I'd rather not spend 15 euros for a cab (Sunday)...

Also, does immigration in St Barth ask to see an onward ticket? I'm going from St Barth to (French) St Martin by ferry - would a ferry confirmation count? In this day and age of E-tickets, would an itinerary showing that I'm returning to the USA from St Maarten count?

You are right, it's only a short ride (probably closer to 1 1/2 or 2 miles) to Gustavia but the roads are narrow, fairly well travelled and there's a pretty steep hill between the airport and town so I don't think you'd want to walk. Take the cab, you'll be glad you did.

Immigration has never asked me to show an onward ticket but if they did your ferry confirmation or a copy of your e-ticket itinerary will surfice.

You know, most islands/countries officially require proof of ongoing or return travel, but I've only been asked once and that was for a trip I just completed to SVG & Grenada. It was in Grenada that I was asked to show my ticket/itinerary. I was a little surprised, but oh, well.

Where are you staying? Most hotels provide a transfer service. If you are staying for a while a rental car is essential.

You could walk it, depending on how much luggage you have, however if you do, take a left at the traffic circle. It is an easier hike.

No requirements for an outbound ticket by immigration, only your passport is checked on entry.

Just a heads up... Flying in to St Barths can be a little intimidating. It's a quick drop to the runway from above a 'cliff', then it's a short runway. You'll be fine, but didn't want it to unnerve you!

"Cliff"???

If you threw yourself precipitously off the top of the "cliff" you would find yourself landing on your feet less than three feet away from where you perilously plummeted, looking somewhat silly.

It would be possible to cycle up this "cliff", without too much effort, and in fact there are roads either side of the "cliff" with the same incline.

I have seen bigger "cliffs" in Holland.
