Need help picking a hotel, please!
I need to pick honeymoon getaway for my brother, for the first week of June(I know it's getting close). Being that my brother won't tell me what he wants other than he wants to go somewhere in the caribbean, now I'm trying to decide between Aruba, Dominican Republic and St. Croix. Which hotels do you guys recommend? Which hotels to stay away from?
Unfortunately, I do have a somewhat of a budget so I would like to keep it around $2k, maybe a little more. Thanks again for all your help.

That's a very small budget. I think the only realistic choice is the DR. If you stick with a modest AI, it will certainly not be luxurious or have great food, but you might be able to make your budget. I'd also look at Mexico (Cancun or Cozumel). You don't say where they are coming from; that's actually crucial because the cost of airfare can add alot.

Actually the budget just went up, and after looking at Expedia for example, it's more like $3k now. I also narrowed it down to St Croix/St Thomas. It looks very pretty and there seems to be a lot of things to see/do, plus the nightlife.
Now, with this budget, and only having 2 places to look at, which hotels does anyone recommed? Which ones should I stay away from.
They'll be heading out there the first week of June (6/2-6/7), and flying in from Chicago. Thanks in advance for your help.

St. Croix is more my speed but for what you are looking for, St. Thomas might be a better choice. There is more shopping, nightlife and you can island hop (to St. John - my favorite USVI, Jost Van Dyke, the Baths on Virgin Gorda. Try www.tripadvisor.com for more specific resort suggestions or

I concur - St. Thomas seems like it would fit your needs. Prices are very close, if not the same, as in the states, and there is a lot to do.
I personally like the Frenchman's Reef Marriott right near Charlotte Amalie. Your brother would have a great time just hanging out there, or they could taxi around the island (which I would recommend vs. renting a vehicle because of parking and such). Definitely beware when you choose a hotel - location and photos can be very deceiving!
St. John is my favorite of the virgin islands - a MUST visit during their trip, preferably for snorkeling and beaches one day, and dinner and nightlife on another day (St. John is a fantastic place to visit a night when the cruiseship passengers are gone). The ferries run relatively late between the islands.
Red Hook in St. Thomas is good nightlife too. They will have a fabulous time if you end up going with St. Thomas!
