Anyone NOT like Anguilla?
Not looking to start arguements or create controversy. Just looking for some honest, thoughtful responses for us to use while planning our vacation.
Our family wants to go to Anguilla. We read up on news.ai and carib-on-line forums, sounds like everyone who has visited just loves this island. Strange how we've yet to hear any negatives. Anyone NOT like Anguilla? Why? What surprised you??
Please, no flaming. The more information we have, the more comfortable we will be with our decision.
On behalf of our family, thank you.

Hi Kaycee,
The ONLY two things I did not care for were:
1. All the restaurants were closed and it was tough to find any live music, parties or dive operators open. (This was ONLY because it was low season - October - so if you go in high or shoulder season, you'll have no problems.)
2. Not as mountainous or lush as some of the other islands I've been to. (But I knew this before I went, so as long as you know this, it's also not a problem.)
I guess those aren't really gripes, but I thought I'd mention them!

I just topped a thread called "Mislead about Anguilla" that may be helpful.

I loved the island, the people, the beaches, but the snorkeling sucked compared to other Caribbean islands. If you have ever snorkeled at some of the finer spots in the islands, you would not be satisfied with the snorkeling on Anguilla.

That other post that was topped for you has some true-isms in it, but they are very emational about their positions.
Here's my take on Anguilla: First, understand that, island or not, Anguilla is truly a third world country. Hell, I loved Belize and Costa Rica, but they were not all rich people's mansions and Rolls Royces either. It's offensive when someone comes back from a vacation and slams the place because it did not meet THEIR expectations.

If slow paced R & R is what you want, and you can stand the sight of a third world country, then go and enjoy!

My comments on Anguilla... We spent the first week of our honeymoon on Anguilla at the Sonesta, and quite frankly, wished I was there now! Although w/family, may be a little boring, unless your family likes to sit on the beach and eat amazing food. We rented a jeep for the week and explored on our own, which was wonderful. If you are looking to bond, tour an island on your own, and have wonderful food, I would truly recommend Anguilla. Otherwise, our second week was in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. Not as nice as Anguilla, but so much more to do with family. All in all, Anguilla was my favorite. Want more info. please e-mail.

Dry, arid and UGLY to boot! If I had a family I would only take them to Grand Cayman (GREAT standard of living, too)!!

Kaycee didn't asked who LIKED it, he asked to hear from those who DID NOT. Read the post before wasting our time.

Did someone forget their estrogen this morning?
