Anyone been to both Ochos Rios and Negril that can recommend one over the other?

Going to Jamaica. Deciding between Sandals Negril and Ochos Rios? Any suggestions or comments. If we choose Negril we will fly one way from Mobay to Negril and take the bus the other for the experience of the culture, so the ride to Negril isn't an issue.

Brian,
I've been to both and by far, Negril is better. The beach in Negril is much nicer. It's nicer water and it goes on for miles so you can continuously walk; Ocho Rios' beaches are much smaller. Ocho Rios is also very touristy as there is a port for cruise ships there. Negril is more laid back too. Although I haven't been to the Sandals resorts, I went to Swept Away and just loved it so much!!

I have been to both area's several times and agree that Negril is the better area, particularily for the beach. Ocho is a great town but NEgril is jsut so much more tropical in feel, long beaches, white sand and the most wonderful sunsets.
We hve not been to Ocho Sandals but really liked Sandals Negril.

Love Sandals Negril over Ochi no question! Are you taking AJ flight 10 out of NY, by chance? If so opt for the drive to Negril then on return if you're taking the late flight 11, I'd suggest the following. Take an early 9 am flight out of Negril and spend the day at Sandals Royal Caribbean. Do airport check-in at Royal and catch a ride to the airport across the street about 45 minutes prior to flight time. This way you'll spend your whole last day virtually still on the beach, not hassling with transfers...x

Definitely head for Negril but for the experience of the culture, hire a guide and a private car or a JUTA taxi for the trip back to the airport, taking B4 over the mountains, not the coast road.
If you have the time (late afternoonis best),stop at Rocklands for Lisa Samon's famed Hummingbird sanctuary to feed same by hand;stop at Blue Hole Gardens at Roaring River or the market in Sav/Savannah La Mar or tour some of the lesser known great houses back up in the mountains and hills. A Red Stripe on a bus just doesn't measure up...

I have stayes at sandals Negril and sandals Dunns River, and i went over to Sandals ocho Rios for the day. Ocho Rios was very nice it is more romantic than Negril. It has beautiful gardens. The beach was smaller than Negril. I love Sandals Negril, it is by far my favorite Sandals. Although I think you'll love either one.
