Any small but luxurious hotels in Bermuda?
All the good/luxurious hotels seem to be high rises? What else is out there for the vacationer who wants quaint, romantic, no children or conventions/business groups?
|
Huh? there are plenty of them. In fact there are more small luxurious hotels than there are high rises. Ariel Sands, The Reefs, Cambridge Beaches, Horizons Cottages, Waterloo House (which may be the only one that doesn't allow children, Fourways Inn, Marley Beach to name a few. Some of these places allow children, but since it cost a fortune (no "kids free" here), you won't find too many of them.

Also Pompano Beach.

I've stayed at both The Reefs and Horizons & Cottages -- both excellent experiences in different ways, all wonderful service. The Reefs has an assortment of stay options (small hotel to cottages); H & C is a classic Bermuda cottage colony. The Reefs is right on a charming beach, has various dine-around options (including some of the properties in previous posts.) H & C is parked on a hilltop -- a fairly short walk to the (public) beach, or spring for the comforts of its sister property, the Coral Beach Club (approx. $15 pp?, which is a bit of a gripe at these prices. However, its a classic Bermuda club.) H & C has a lovely pool and deck; dining privileges at Waterloo House and Coral BEach Club. Food is very good at The Reefs, exellent at H & C. H & C is a Relais & Chateaux property. Both properties warmly welcome children, but there aren't that many, and only seem to attract the well-behaved kind who are used to nice places. I've walked around a few other places perviously mentioned, and you won't go wrong with them, either.

'Should have mentioned: definitely stay away from the Southampton Pricess and Sonesta if you want to avoid conventions, and feelings of being swarmed by throngs. These hotels are right for the right groups, but not wht you seem to want.

Cambridge Beaches is one of those places that you want to go back to time and time again. Look into it.

I haven't been there in some time but the Elbow Beach Club was always the place to go. They offer small condo's right on the beach. It is pricey but worth every penny.
