Any and all dining options are appreciated.

We do not need an extremely high end, but would enjoy dinner by the water a few nights. Also, where are the affordable accomodations for salad, burgers, etc?

Thanks everyone!

Hi Susan
We ate at The Almond Tree (I think that was the name.)It is right on the water with outside patio's, even a little gazebo where you can stand and watch the fish. They have two resident parrots that stood on both my arms. Off to the right, the beach is all rock but off to the left there was a very small sandy beach. Food was good and reasonable. We were told that there are not many restaurants with outside dining because it gets so hot in the Cayman's that most people want the air-conditioning.

Susan,

As I'm sure you've already found out, dining in GC can be very pricey, but at the same time, you will enjoy some fabulous meals.

I can't say that I totally agree with the previous poster as to there not being many outside dining choices because of the heat. Actually, there are a ton of choices for outside dining in GC. Our favorites: Smugglers Cove, The Reef Grill, Calypso Grill. These 3 choices are all pricey, but worth every penny in our opinion. All 3 have outdoor dining.
A few other suggestions that might be less expensive: The Edge(Boddentown), The Naked Fish, The Almond Tree & Treehouse Cafe. Again all of these offer outside dining.

Keep in mind, that I honestly can't remember eating at too many places that didn't have open air dining. Try checking out www.caribbean-on-line.com, and go to the Cayman message board, and do a search on restaurants. there are also several reviews on both hotels and restaurants on that site (you'll see the menu on the left hand side on the page for the reviews). With a little looking around, that site offers a huge amount of info.

The Wharf is pricey, but worth going at least once because you can watch the waitstaff feed the fish that come to the end of the dock. Also would recommend the Hyatt restaurant that is beach side. It's been consistently good food in a beautiful setting. For cheap eating, I'd recommend EATS, an old fashioned diner kind of place just across the street from Villas of the Galleon and The Westin. Have a great time!

If you have a car and want to go for a bit of a ride, I would also recommend Portofino's on the east end of the island. Also, The Lighthouse Restaurant is right on the water with great food, but I don't think they have outdoor dining. The Almond Tree is good. We also liked The Edge and The Cracked Conch for casual, less expensive meals; both are right on the water. There was another restaurant on the west end that begins with a "P" (can't remember name) that is right on the water that is really good. Also, if you have a car, take a ride up to Rum Point to spend the afternoon. There is a small beach and a small restaurant there for a casual lunch.

Have fun in GC!

I beleive teh P restaurant is Pappagallo and it is excellent. Also In that area, or not far is Calypso Grill. Both are great but not inexpensive.

At the southern end of 7mb is the Sunsat House-great outdoor bar/restaurant on the water, casual, and relatively inexpensive.

We were disappointed with the Cracked Conch.

The Reef Grill is hands down the best place in GC!!! I went twice in one week there last year..

2. The Hyatt's restaurant on the beach (I forgot the name) is incredible too.
3. Don't waste your time at the Wharf...

I think Melody is referring to Hemingway's. The seafood is great there. You can dine out in the open air and have a nice view of the sea. The Gazpacho is done like no one else's. Gourmet magazine has written about the place. I think we paid about $72.00 for our dinner entrees for two of us. I agree that EATS is also a good basic food restaurant.

There's a new restaurant in Cayman - Mezza - above Big Daddy's liquor store. Very good food - good service and good prices.

Calypso Grill, Smugglers Cove for high end. Don't like Reef Grill because I think prices are too high for a place that's not waterfront although food is good. Wharf can be hit or miss. More reasonable would be the Lone Star, esp. M & Th. nts. when they have all you can eat fajitas for CI$12.99. Excellent and good burgers too. Chicken Chicken for yummy take out and Cimboco.

Rent a car and go to Rum Point for Dinner! (there is also a water taxi from one of the hotels on seven mile beach, but there's nothing like exploring the island in your own car).

During the day it's a happenin' place with free hammocks and eight dollar hamburgers. But at night the "nice" restaurant opens for dinner, and has a romantic, out of the way feeling. We were fortunate enough to be staying at Morritt's Tortuga, so we drove home after the afternoon's activities and changed for dinner. Ask for a table with a view of the sunset. As the sun sets, they light the Tiki lamps along the walkway to the deserted beach. Nice!
