Bonaire or Tortola or other suggestions? Honeymoon Help Needed!
My fiance and I are trying to plan our August honeymoon. We have been looking at Bonaire and Tortola, but are open for any suggestions! We are looking for someplace which isn't too touristy, but has nice restaurants and offers some sort of nightlife - little bars or bands, nothing too big like a casino or disco. We both like to snorkel, but don't know how to dive so are wondering if Bonaire is not a good option. We have been to Anguilla and liked it. I am open to any advice! Thanks.

Considering August may be the height of hurricane season, you may want to consider Bonaire over Tortola. It is very rare for a hurricane to occur in Bonaire. They were hit with a storm surge from Lenny, but it was a rare event.
I personally think Bonaire has it all over Tortola! They are totally different in that Tortola is lush and green and hilly and Bonaire tends to be more desert like. We enjoyed the sight seeing more on Bonaire and the snorkeling was unsurpased. We were kind of bored in Tortola.

Kim, you are definitely aiming at hurricane season for the northern Caribbean, so Tortola (as much as I think it beats Bonaire)would be out for me. I mean O-U-T out. Now bear in mind that your chances of actually getting hit by one are small, but that's why the rates are low then. If you do it, get trip insurance because once you're there, there's no refund.
As to what you describe as what you're looking for... well, Tortola or Virgin Gorda fit very well.
BONAIRE!!!!! By far!! We have been to both islands and decided to spend our recent honeymoon in Bonaire at the Harbour Village Beach Resort.

Harbour Village was expensive, but for a honeymoon it was worth the splurge. The island is incredible - no worries about hurricanes at all. It is not touristy at all, no crime, and the nicest people.

The resort is by far the most beautiful place I have ever stayed at. We were treated like royalty. The restaurants are incredible, and the water is the clearest turquoise of all the islands I have been to.

We did a lot of pricing with agencies, but we found an agency called Vacations By Victoria, and the owner Victoria, knew everything about Bonaire. She goes there all the time and we felt like we already knew the island before we left.
We got great prices.

If you want to find out anything about Bonaire you should call them - (212) 740-4601 or e-mail them at [email protected]. SO nice!!

There was also another resort we visited, the Plaza Resort which was beautiful and is less expensive. We met a lot of honeymooners there.

The sunsets are amazing and it is such a romantic island. We have been to almost all the islands, and we will be returning to Bonaire next year.

Please ask me any questions - I could go on and on about Bonaire - you will love it!!!!
