Any info on The Beach House Barbuda?

I was browsing Luxury Link today when I saw a listing for a new hotel on Barbuda called The Beach House. Does anybody have any information on it? Barbuda is a place I've wanted to visit, but after Palmetto closed there were no resorts left on the island for people in my tax bracket. The long, pink sand beaches combined with the promise of good snorkeling is VERY appealing to me.

For many many years this property was KClub. I have never stayed there though - rates were and are too expensive.

Thanks for the responses. I thought this hotel had replaced the old Palmetto Point Resort, not K Club, but I could certainly be wrong.

You're right. The Beach House was formerly the Palmetto Beach Hotel. It underwent a multi-million dollar renovation last year and is now the only luxury resort on the island that is open year-round. You can find more info at www.thebeachhousebarbuda.com.

I, too, was interested in the property after reading the posts. When accessing the Beach House's own website, I was surprised to learn that it is part of an organization that
requires "membership" (to the tune of $50,000) for the privilege of staying at the
group's various upscale resorts. Obviously,
this leaves out most of us, even those who
appreciate luxury Caribbean properties. Has anyone else checked out the "fine print"
who can confirm my research? If so, then all
Fodorites should know the limitations of staying at this hotel.

No, I didn't know that, Boonie. I thought it was odd that they didn't have rates posted on their website, and also odd that they didn't respond to my request for further information. Oh, well. Looks like I'll still be waiting around for a place on Barbuda to stay, after all.

Actually, I recently emailed them and heard back from Wendy who gave me the name their designated travel agent. I contacted the TA and she faxed me a copy of their rate sheet. There was no mention of "membership" After reading this, I emailed Wendy to ask her about this. I am waiting for her response. I will let you know as soon as I hear something.

Just wondering if you've ever been to Barbuda? If so, what is it like?

No membership is required to stay at The Beach House! --The hotel is open to the public and, in fact, the nightly rates include full American breakfast daily, one 30-minute massage per person and welcome cocktails. As for the island of Barbuda, it's a rare find in the Caribbean as it's one of the last islands that hasn't been touched by overdevelopment and so offers an abundance of nature-based activities like hiking to the island's sunken jungle, excursions to the Frigate Bird Sancturary and even fishing for fresh lobster (which Barbuda is known for). --All of which can be arranged by The Beach House.

katiekate: If what you say is true, I am dying
to arrange a visit. However, I am having
difficulty once again locating the website and the email contact information. Can you please give me the email contact you used to communidate with Wendy and/or the name and contact info for the designated travel agent? Many thanks in advance.

Just an FYI..there are no villas on the beach to rent in Barbuda...just very spartan guest houses and the aforementioned properties.

Reply to katiekate: Sorry I have not responded to date. Regrettably, I have not called either Wendy or Lynn (per your suggestion) due to some family obligations
(medical and otherwise). When I can catch
my breath I intend to do so, and promise to
update you on my "research". Thank you
again for your previous suggestions.

to: Boonie, sorry to hear about your family obligations. Hope everything is okay.
We are set to go mid-September. Lynn has been wonderful. I'll post a report when we get home. I'm praying for calm weather.
