Any easy island hopping from St. Lucia? Morgan's Bay Resort input?
We are planning a trip to St. Lucia in November & wonder how do-able it is to get to Martinique or any of the other closer islands from there? We would love to stay 3-4 days in St. Lucia and maybe hop over to another island before coming back to the states.
Also, we see mixed reviews on Morgan's Bay Resort, St. Lucia. Any input from recent travelers? Appreciate it!! |
The easiest island to hop to from St. Lucia is Barbados since it's a fairly short 20-minute flight from the Vigie airport. But with taxes it's a rather expensive one-way flight.
You can also take a ferry to Dominica or Martinique, but those crossings take 2 or 3 hours I believe. You'll also find that flights to and from Martinique back are fairly expensive but are certainly possible (I believe you can connect through Puerto Rico). |
Sunlink tours offers day trips to Martinique by power boat and flights to St. Vincent/Grenadines.
http://www.sunlinktours.com/trips_to...uring_isla.htm They also offer tours in St. Lucia. Chantours is located in Barbados and they do day trips and overnight trips to St. Lucia and other Islands within that area. I'm not sure if they do reverse tours like starting in St. Lucia, but you could inquire. http://www.chantours.com |
You can take a catamaran on Express des Iles, takes an hour and a half from St Lucia to Martinique. It's a lovely way to arrive in Martinique as you get a great view of the Fort. We took this from Guadeloupe to Martinique. At the port it's easy to rent a car and drive up to St Pierre or where ever takes your fancy.
http://www.express-des-iles.com/index.cfm?lng=en We've also stayed at Morgan Bay, when it was Almond Morgan. It was ok actually, like alot of Caribbean AIs in the moderate category, it can be a bit rough around the edges but we had fun, clean room and plenty to eat and drink. The biggest disappointment I guess was the beach, I didn't want to swim in the water as it was murky, we almost always rent a car so this didn't matter for us. Mostof the guests are British, in case that matters. |
