On our first cruise, we spend an entire
day at Puerto Plata. Although we would
never go back, I have to say, we will
never forget it. It is a very poor island, and we were warned as soon as we
got off the ship to stay close together,
and hurry to our buses. There were about
a hundred men waiting on the dock, which
we found out later, were wanting jobs on the ship. However, it was very
intimidating to say the least. Although,
the people seemed friendly, you could not let anything out of your sight, or it would be gone in an instant. The beaches and the water were far from being "clean". If you do go, it would be wiser, and probably safer, to stay at
your hotel!
