Antigua Resorts
 

We thought we had settled on Antigua for our winter vacation but are feeling a bit cnfused by resort reviews. We are wanting an all inclusive, something quiet at night, relaxing, clean, and no hassle. Great beach is a must for us and clear blue water. We were really leaning towards The Verandah resort as most reviews are excellent however, a few about uncomfortable beds and lounges and really loud frogs at night has made me think twice. Is this a good resort? Would you recommend a different one? And, what would you recommend about Antigua? Note: our second choice right now is Punta Cana at the Excellence Resort.

Antigua flat hot expensive with BEAUTIFUL beaches

but not much else.. got bored after a couple of days.

But if you just want to lay out on a great beach and

pay a lot to do it Verandah is great just

might be the place for you.. do not expect much action though

I disgree that Antigua is flat and expensive but agree it has beautiful beaches. I would not hesitate to return. Antigua does not have the hills and rainforests of St Lucia for instance but it's not completely flat say like Anguilla. Verandah resort is on the Atlantic side and the sea is really beautiful in that area, plus it is quiet over there. Loud frogs at night is part of the tropical experience and can't see why that is a problem, they must have them in Punta Cana.

St James Club in Antigua doesn't have the best beaches though, one is windy and the other is a lagoon. Jolly Beach area has some lovely properties on a stunning beach.

I don't think quovadis and I have ever seen eye-to-eye and this post is no exception. Antigua has much beauty, it's not flat, and the beaches are gorgeous. You also have the bonus of English Harbor and Nelson's Dockyard there for a tour with interesting culture and history. Even if you stay at an all-inclusive, it's worth renting a car for a couple of days so that you can explore as many of the great beaches as possible.

I personally liked the eastern side of the island because it was quieter, but that was before the Verandah was built and I haven't visited since then. My favorite is the Long Bay Hotel, but it wasn't AI and it's no longer open.

Blue Waters is a nice property, well-maintained and venerable. Jolly Beach is definitely low-budget and you get what you pay for in terms of accommodations, but the beach is lovely.

Hawksbill Beach Resort sits on 4 separate beaches, so the property never feels crowded. The accommodations aren't as nice as Blue Waters, but it's on the sunset side of the island and the beaches are lovely.

Galley Bay is a forum favorite, but it's definitely on the more expensive end. They frequently run sales, though, to bring the rack rates down out of the stratosphere.

The beaches are just the beginning of what Antigua has to offer. They also have captivating sunsets, great weather, lots of A/I's if that's what you want, generally good food... I would absolutely recommend it as an island!

has anyone stayed at the Grand Pineapple Beach Resorts?

Though I have not been to Antigua, I would look at Coco Bay, Galley Bay, Grand Pineappple or St. James.

I understand the Verandah is pretty secluded. That would bother me, but might be something you are looking for.

Though the Excellance Resort in Punta Cana gets good recommendations, the beach can get pretty iffy for swimming.

I do take offence with the "bought and paid for" remark about Trip Advisors reviews. I have posted all my reviews on that site as well as other sites and I have never been paid once for my submissions. I would hope that people read what I write and take what information from it that they need. Yes, TA has had it's share of "issues", but if you frequent that site and get to know the regulars for the "one hit review wonders", you can come away with some really great information. Plus the OP didn't specify that the reviews they read were from TA to make such an assumption.

Stayed at Blue Waters in July and loved it in Solider Bay and loved it! Snorkeling- meh, Beach- small but not crowded by anymeans, Staff- great, Grounds- well maintained, Views- great, Island- friendly and easy to get around, small yet friendly, fun and upbeat!
