Antigua or Barbados? PLEASE HELP US DECIDE!
 

we're planning a one-week trip in December and can't decide if we should go to Antigua or Barbados. Any thoughts on the two would be greatly appreciated.

Have been to both, and both are very nice. Antigua is less populated, many beautiful beaches, has casinos and ispretty quiet for nightlife. Barbados I prefer, simply because there is more to do. The beaches are equally as beautiful (in my opinion) but there is a larger population, but never felt crowded. There are more restaurants, bars, sightseeing, as the geography of the island varies greatly. A trip to the eastern and northern coasts are a must, the huge cliffs with powerful waves are so dramatic and so different from the serene calm waters of the western and southern coasts. The locals in both islands are very freindly.Tough choice, but mine would be Barbados.

I have lived in Antigua for most of the last 30 years and think it is the greatest island in the Caribbean to live in (having also lived in 5 other countries not in the Caribbean). I have been to Barbados a number of times,; can understand why some people like it, but due to its density of development, traffic and commercial activity, much prefer Antigua. The secret to Antigua is research! We have many great restaurants scattered throughout the island, and regrettably for visitors many of the guide books do not mention our favourites. In addition, when visitors stay at the bigger hotels, they are probably given advice on where to eat from reception staff who never eat out! If you decide on Antigua I would be happy to give you advice on eating out as I do it myself often and think we have some great choices!

Just returned from Crane Beach Resort in Barbados. It was wonderful if you like a beautiful view and nothing to do. We ate at great restaurants and relaxed. The Crane is a beautiful resort. Get a suite and not a room for best views.

We have also been trying to decide between the two island and have settled on Antigua after reading your comments. We are renting a villa out at Willkies. We would appreciate any tips and Info on places to eat Especially by the ocean. We enjoy the quiet life but still enjoy eating out and having a few drinks.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Leila describes Barbados best, it really offers something for any mood, honey mooners, singles, families it is amazing there is so much and so little to do if you choose to. From popular beaches to lonely dramatic seascapes. This little island really packas a punch in an unusually satisfying way.

I think Barbados is the most unique island. It's very civilized compared to most islands. The Island is intimate, driveable and very British. The West Coast is a where you want to stay and although Crane is beautiful because of the location it's difficult to swin, etc. The Coral reef Club is beautiful as many other resorts on the West Coast. Barbados has wonderful dining and so diverse you won't be dissapointed. Antigua has beautiful beaches but less to do and we will be visiting there in January. There's just something about Barbados... once it gets under your skin you have to go back. If you're into having a private villa w/housekeper we've booked with luxury retreats and stayed at Schooner Bay in the most beautiful setting.

Can Brian from Antigua suggest the best All Inclusive ??
