Anse Chastanet VS. Ladera Resort
 

My fiance and I are trying to decide where to spend our last three nights on of our honeymoon in St. Lucia. We have narrowed the choices to: Anse Chastanet and Ladera Resort. We would not be doing an all inclusive if this makes a difference. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi Roo,<BR>I have been to both, and they are quite similar.<BR>If a beach is important to you, go to Anse Chast. The diving and snorkeling there is great. There is no beach at Ladera, and you have to take a shuttle that runs infrequently.<BR>There are both beach and mountainside rooms as AC also.<BR>I feel the food at both was quite good.

Roo<BR><BR>My husband and I stayed at Ladera last year for part of our honeymoon. We thought it was the most romantic spot we had ever seen. It was very hard to leave our room as the views are out of this world with gross piton on one side and petit piton ont the other side and the Caribbean 1000 ft below you. WOW! There are free shuttles during the day to take you to the Hilton Beahc(very good) and Anse's beach (black sand, not as good)<BR><BR>We did go over to Anse and I saw a couple of the rooms. The views from there are no where as good as theose at Ladera. In my opionion Ladera is the better choice for romantics and views. If being on the beach is very important go to the Hilton. Anse's beach is small and there are boats coming and going all the time. We had to really watch out for them when we were in the water. Definitely Ladera!! We just got back 2 wks ago and we got married at Jalousie and then honeymooned at Ladera. We walked into our suite and we were in complete heaven! You can't go wrong with Ladera! And I'm a very picky person!

Ladera. Once you see your room, you won't mind the shuttle . . . . The beach at AC wasn't so great anyway - dark sand.

Wow! The opinions on this board are almost totally the opposite regarding Ladera vs Anse Chastanet than opinions I've seen on other boards. Could the Honeymoon Specialist --or others -- comment on why Ladera is better vs AC, or are you connected with Ladera somehow (this question not meant as a put down, I just know that it happens and usually cuz you really believe in the property!!) Also, any comments whether opinions might change for "older folks" -- late 30's --on 15th anniversary trip might change your recommendations. Just curious!

We stayed at AC a year ago in the most expensive room (at the top of the hill). Our view was great (open-air to the trees, ocean view) but the furnishings were run-down & the bathroom tiles were very moldy/dirty. I was disappointed considering what we were paying. The staff were not very helpful & acted as if your presence was an imposition.<BR>We had dinner at Ladera & I was impressed with the friendly staff & the cleanliness & maintenance. However, we only saw the dining & the pool area (the view is magnificent.)<BR>AC's beach area is indeed very small & boats do zoom in & out making it perilous to snorkel.<BR>I don't know why magazines continue to tout AC as one of the best places to stay - it needs a major renovation in my opinion - & no, I do not require 5-star accomodations, I just think if you charge that much you could at least keep the furniture presentable & clean the mildew. (No pool at AC.)

My husband and I went to ladera for the 2nd week of our two week honeymoon in 2000. It was by far the most romantic resort. The rooms were unbelievable, the staff, courteous, friendly and willing to please, the food....outstanding. The gourmet breakfast was delicious, the dinners....the best gourmet food we'd ever had. We didn't feel it was inconvenient to not be on the beach...we took shuttles to Jalousie and Anse, but we hardly left the room. Ours had its own pool and view that was second to none. Ladera gets my vote.

I agree, Ladera much better, AC run down and tired.

Laura:<BR><BR>I am not connected to Ladera at all. Like I said in my earlier e-mail my husband and I thought is was the most ramantic beautiful place we had ever seen. We did go over to AC and I was able to see one of the rooms and like the others was very disappointed in the beach, service in the restaurant, unfriendliness of staff and the room I saw. I was very glad I was at Ladera. We did not have to depend on the shuttle to go donw to the Hilton's beach as we rented a jeep and just went down when we pleased. <BR><BR>All the rooms at Ladera are unique so you can't go wrong with any room. My husband & I just returned from Ladera. We spent a day at Anse Chastenet, and agree that it can't begin to compare with Ladera! Ladera is a romantic, luxurious tree house for pampered adults. Anse Chastenet felt a bit more causal, a bit run down, and the food and service were not nearly as excellent as at Ladera. If the beach at your door step is a necessity, I would recommend the Hilton intead - the snorkeling and the services were better there - but the view, food & people at Ladera will make up for any "inconvenience" of having to take a shuttle to the beach (we found the shuttles to be quite convenient, or, you can take a taxi on your own). There is nothing like waking up to the sound of bird song, looking up and seeing the Pitons, and feeling like you are truly in Paradise!My husband & I are in our mid-late 30's, were on our 5th anniversary, and have absolutely no connections to Ladera, other than we wish we didn't have to leave!
